I plan to go visit there soon. I plan to avoid Havana. What would you look for if you went there? Derogatory responses are WELCOME, but they must be realistic and actionable. I indeed speak Spanish. Two things that are NOT actionable because my research says they will get you arrested: 1) Fly a drone, even a toy. 2) Film an anti-government protest

BTW: Beaches don't interest me, they have beaches in Florida.

I would spend my whole time eating, drinking and listening to live music. :)

Whatever the govt wants you to see. Why are you going there? Any money you spend will primarily go into the pockets of a corrupt govt that tyrannize their people. And if you somehow manage to avoid that you, or the vendor, might well be jailed for trying to undermine socialism. Im not being rhetorical. These are things that really happen.

Investing is great, if you are Cuban.

That's fine and dandy, but how do suppose I do that without getting arrested myself?

I'd go scuba diving! I want to go, have been able to go for years with my other passport...now I can fly there for free with my bennies.

Spending only a single night in jail and being deported is acceptable. When I went 10 years ago, I hired an illegal tour guide. He did a good job communicating what was likely to *ONLY* get you deported and what would have more serious consequences.

Scuba diving, jeep excursion, restaurants, night life, etc....

In Havana, go to the old city. It's fascinating. Find a venue for music, walk the Malecon (in daytime), eat at a paladare. I recommend the Hotel Presidente.
Depends on when you go, but the pollution can be nasty- lotsa poor-running diesel engines and a lack of breeze can make you breathless just standing on the sidewalk. So rent a car and head south down the autopista to Santa Clara. Couple, three days later over to the coast, to Trinidad.
You'll love it.

As far as he knew. There are no rules there. Theyll jail you for whatever they want. Theyll invent something. Regardless, youre just helping the dictatorship by going there. Best to stay away until the people free themselves.

I was in Havana 10 years ago. This time it's Santa Clara, Cienfuegos and Holguin.

Yeah, Santa Clara was good. We stayed in a hotel in the square that had a bar on the roof- great views and they had music up there sometimes. In the stairway and elevator shaft there were glass bricks with bullet holes in them from the revolution. Apparently the town was where Batista went to relax.
Cienfuegos, we went there on our way back up to Havana from Trinidad. Saw horse-drawn buses there. I really recommend Trinidad, since you'll be in the neighbourhood. Google it, Trinidad in Cuba, and you'll see why. There's a nice beach resort there, mostly European tourists, where we spent the only half-day on the beach in the two weeks we were in Cuba. The woman we stayed with in Trinidad, in her casa particulaire, was Catholic and didn't approve of the beach there because the European women were often topless.
Have a good time. When you get away from the city and meet locals, they appreciate bars of soap- it was in short supply when we were there. Might not be the case now.
