Five Cuban rafters die at sea in attempt to leave country

Barlovento: The Massacre of Cuban-Chinese

So now, for the first time, the complete story.

On January 15, 1962, the Cuban Coast Guard, following Castro's standing orders, massacred a group of 29 civilians whose terrible crime, so damaging to Castro's revolution, was wanting to leave Cuba for the U.S. Among them were eight Cuban-Chinese from the town of Bauta and the neighborhood of Marianao, near that rich-man's-paradise renamed "Hemingway Marina."

On that winter night, the group went aboard the 31-foot rented boat "Pretexto" (Pretext) anchored at the marina.

But Castro's Gestapo-type State Security (SS) was already very well prepared and because of its pervasive web of informants, knew of their plans well in advance and had time to organize a dramatic ambush, rather than peacefully apprehending the participants. Castro's rule-by-fear depends on bloody spectacles as a deterrent lesson to repress others.

How many more boats like the "13 de Marzo" tugboat, and the riverboat "XX Aniversario” the Castroit military regime has sank in the last 59 years, sending to their death many innocent children, men and women? How many massacres like the Cuban-Chinese aboard the yacht “Pretext”? Like the icebergs, where only ten per cent of the mass is visible above the water surface, the rest below the surface isn’t. The same happens with these mass murders of innocent people, where only ten per cent is of common knowledge, the rest below the surface isn’t known up to now.

One thing that is unavoidable is change, and when it happens will not be possible to forgive and pardon. It is absolutely necessary to judge and condemn the crimes perpetrated by the high-ranking officials of Castroit tyrannical regime. ¡Justice must be done!

President Barack Obama’s last-minute decision to repeal the executive policy known as “Wet Foot/Dry Foot” has deterred many, but not all, Cuban nationals seeking refuge in the United States. According to the U.S. Coast Gard, dozens of Cubans have attempted the escape since their rights in the U.S. were no longer guaranteed.

Capt. Aldante Vinciguerra, chief of response for the Coast Guard 7th District, told the Associated Press that authorities had apprehended 65 Cuban nationals on the high seas since the day President Obama announced that Cubans would no longer receive political asylum in the United States automatically, January 12. Most will be repatriated, and 27 already have, according to Martí Noticias. That outlet notes that another 52 Cubans were detained in U.S. ports of entry between January 12 and mid-March as an extra precaution to implement the policy. That was how they were treated before the wet food/dry foot policy.

Obama decision to repeal the executive policy of “Wet Foot/Dry Foot”, require that Cubans who attempt to enter the U.S. illegally shall be sent back to the island. He said, “We are treating Cuban migrants the same way we treat migrants from other countries.” The problem is that his new executive policy doesn’t differentiate between migrants and refugees. Migrants shall be sent back, they do not deserve special treatment. Refugees shall be provided with asylum, but they must prove they face political, religious or other type of persecution in their homeland. That was how they were treated before the wet food/dry foot policy.

Many of the Cubans that have arrived to the U.S., are economic migrants, not political refugees. The Cuban Adjustment Act does not need to be totally eliminated. It needs to be updated, requiring that only those that are political refugees will benefit from it.

The outraged of the lefties with regard to President Trump Executive Orders on immigration, exhibit and staggering hypocrisy. When President Obama, in the last week of his term issued a similar Executive Orders on immigration singling out Cubans, not for a short period of time but a permanent one, closing the door to refugees and stranded thousands of them, the lefties did not conducted massive streets protests. Their double standard is very visible in this case.

Where is the support for Cuban refugees from the left, where is their outpouring of rage for their detention at the airports? Give me a break!

US Coast Guard repatriates 27 Cuban migrants
US Coast Guard repatriates 27 Cuban migrants

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

MIAMI, United States (CMC) – The US Coast Guard says the cutter Charles Sexton has repatriated 27 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba. On Tuesday, the Coast Guard said the repatriation is the result of a migrant interdiction near Key Largo, Florida on Sunday.
“The Coast Guard helped secure the US border and prevent this sea voyage from ending in tragedy, we discourage anyone from taking to the sea and attempting to reach US soil illegally – they are risking their lives with very little chance of success,” said Capt Aldante Vinciguerra, chief of response for the Coast Guard 7th District.

“The Coast Guard and our partner agencies continue to maintain a strong presence in the Southeast and are ready to stop those who take the illegal, ill-advised and unsafe journey across the Florida Straits,” he added.

The Coast Guard estimates that 1,951 Cubans have attempted to illegally migrate to the US, via the maritime environment, since October 1, 2016, compared to 7,411 Cubans in fiscal year 2016.

The Coast Guard said these numbers represent the total number of at-sea interdictions, landings and disruptions in the Florida Straits, the Caribbean and Atlantic.
In April 2017, the U.S. Coast Guard reported that it did not intercept Cuban refugees in the Florida Straits. Seem that Cubans escaping on makeshift rafts has come to an end after Obama unilaterally repeal the executive policy known as “Wet Foot/Dry Foot.” In May, surprise, surprise, Cubans resumed fleeing attempting to reach U.S. soil through the strait of Florida. Their desperation and urgency to escape from the Castroit tyrannical regime outweigh the high risk of perishing in the sea, been intercepted at sea or caught on land, hopping to reach and stay in the U.S. as illegal immigrants.

NINE Cuban migrants stranded nearly two weeks on a cay in the Cay Sal Bank were spotted and rescued by the United States Coast Guard and taken to Grand Bahama on Saturday.

According to an immigration official, the migrants had left Villa Clara, Cuba, for the US on May 28 on a rustic vessel, but developed engine trouble and were forced to seek refuge on a cay.

They were spotted on Friday, June 9, by the US Coast Guard and taken aboard the USCG Cutter William Trump which arrived at Freeport Harbour around 5pm on Saturday.

Immigration officer Napthali Cooper reported that the migrants – all men – were taken to the Department of Immigration where they were processed and examined by a medical team from the Disease Surveillance Unit of the Public Hospitals Authority.

Mr Cooper said the migrants were flown to New Providence on Monday and would be detained at the Detention Centre to await repatriation.
The only hope these rafters have to stay in the U.S. is to prove they will be persecuted if sent back to Cuba because of their political and religious activities, and ask for political asylum and obtain refugees status, instead of being considered economic migrants and sent back to the island.

MIAMI, United States (CMC) — The United States Coast Guard says crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter William Trump repatriated 15 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Saturday.

The US Coast Guard said the aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami observed a migrant rustic Wednesday while on patrol about 65 miles southeast of Dry Tortugas, Florida.

Watch-standers at Coast Guard Sector Key West “diverted the cutter William Trump crew who arrived on scene, interdicted and safely embarked the migrants,” the Coast Guard said.

Since the end of the “wet foot, dry foot”, the number rafters intercepted at sea has declined by 71 percent. The rafter that reach U.S. soil can apply for asylum and would be detained in immigration centers until their cases are resolved.

For the second time in three months, Cuban migrants made landfall in the Florida Keys this week — a once-weekly, and sometimes daily, occurrence until the Obama administration, in its waning days, repealed a decades-old policy treating those fleeing the communist nation as refugees.

Friday morning, a single-engine “rustic vessel” arrived at Fort Zachary Taylor Park in Key West carrying seven Cubans — five men and two women, said U.S. Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Adam Hoffner.

“The subjects all appeared to be in good health,” he said by email. “All of the subjects were processed for removal.”

According to the far left the island is a socialist paradise, where education, housing and healthcare are free. Why is the reason that in spite of the termination of the “wet foot, dry foot” policy, Cubans rafters continuous fleeing from the island paradise attempting to reach U.S. soil through the strait of Florida? Are they masochists? Or simple life in the island of Dr. Castro is hell.

That's why I advised some people in Cuba if they come to the US, make sure they get a politically motivated criminal record AND get a copy of that record. It's a careful balancing act to get into trouble, but not too much trouble.

Again the backdrop of the Castros tyranny “reforms” greeted by the mainstream media, Cubans continue to risk their lives to escape from workers paradise. Five more victims of the Castro brothers, the cause of this tragedy.

At least for them all they have to do is set foot on US soil and they are be welcomed with open arms, unlike those coming from Central America.

Why these Cuban rafters would want to leave the paradise Michael Moore described? Why in the world would they want to leave the island paradise that Beyonce and JayZ just visited?

Are you utilizing two vapid empty headed entertainers and a documentary filmmaker in an attempt to paint a picture of universal Dem support of the Castro regime?
Nice.

PS: Moore's visit to Cuba was strictly about health care.
His point was, if a failed banana republic like Cuba can show compassion for the sick, so can we, nothing more.
Your published accounts, wherever they're coming from, about Cuba, are informative and interesting. Perhaps you could just stick to providing that instead of making lame attempts to paint Democrats as Castro lovers.
What's next, some McCarthyism for giggles?

Has the Great Conservative Savior Herr Trump restored the wet-foot/dry foot provision yet?
Wanna bet he doesn't?
Wanna bet the current rabid foaming at the mouth ultra-nationalists will push to incarcerate ALL Cuban refugees in those nice cages?

In an effort to get more concessions from Raul, Obama suspended the wet foot/dry foot policy.
Personally I think it might have been a dumb move, and I wonder why Mr. Trump hasn't scored some points by restoring it.
Think of how much the anti-Castro folks in Florida would love it.

Well, yes they have to prove their refugee status. I doubted the regime will provide them with that type of record

At least for them all they have to do is set foot on US soil and they are be welcomed with open arms, unlike those coming from Central America.
After Obama unilaterally repeal Clinton executive policy known as “Wet Foot/Dry Foot”, Cubans caught illegally reaching U.S. soil would be sent back to Cuba unless they can prove their refugee status, which is difficult to prove for many of them.

When people fall into insults is usually because there is nothing logical left to say. The U.S. has a long history of providing asylum to those that cannot go back to their country for fear of persecution base on political, religious and other causes. There is no reason for Trump to restore the “wet foot/ dry foot” policy. All migrants trying to enter the U.S. illegally shall be sent back to their country of origin, they do not deserve special treatment. Refugees of course shall be provided with asylum, but they must prove their case to deserve refugee status according to U.S. laws.

ANOTHER 13 Cuban migrants were interdicted this week at sea near Anguilla Cay and brought to Grand Bahama by the US Coast Guard.

This is the second group of Cubans discovered in Bahamian waters within the past week. On March 30, 13 Cuban men spotted near Cay Sal Bank were brought to Freeport and turned over to Immigration officials.

According to reports, this latest group was picked up on Monday after having left Cuba last Saturday aboard a rustic wooden sail boat. They were trying to get to Miami, Florida.

Notwithstanding the fact that the U.S. government does not grant automatic asylum to Cubans rafters, in May 2018 twenty six Cuban rafters were interdicted in Bahamian waters, and if they cannot proof asylum status, will be sent back to the island of Dr. Castro.

How is possible that with the implementation of the regime so call “new reforms”, so many Cubans continuous to risk their lives in the sharks infested water of the Gulf of Mexico? Are they masochists?, or just that they prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful slavery.

A Key West-based Coast Guard cutter stopped almost 30 people trying to reach the United States from Cuba by boat in the Florida Straits between Saturday and Monday.

All but one were taken back to Cuba on Thursday aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo, according to a Coast Guard press release. One man was transferred to Miami-Dade police because there was an open warrant for his arrest on a grand theft auto charge, the release states.

The 29 Cubans rafters who tried to reach the U.S. land are desperate enough to risk their lives, even with a minimal prospect of being granted asylum since the Obama administration took away the automatic asylum to Cubans rafters that reached U.S. soil. Against all hope they keep fleeing the paradise island of Dr. Castro.

Twelve Cubans on a makeshift vessel arrived on an ocean-side beach on Lower Matecumbe Key early Tuesday morning, marking the first reported Cuban migrant landing in the Keys this calendar year.

The 10 men and two women arrived at mile marker 75 around 1 a.m., said U.S. Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Adam Hoffner.

All 12 people were “in good health and accounted for,” said Adam Linhardt, spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The new arrivals told Border Patrol agents that they left Punta Alegre, a seaside town on the northern coast of the island country, about seven days ago, Hoffner said.

Despite Barack Obama’s decision, in January of 2017, to end the wet foot/dry foot policy, Cubans keep arriving to the U.S. by unseaworthy rustic rafts, a risky and dangerous trip. Around 144 Cubans rafters have arrived illegally to the U.S. since October 1, 2017, the start of the new fiscal year.

The three were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West. Two were released Monday while one remained, said Adam Linhardt, spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The men were spotted about 40 miles off the coast of the Lower Keys by Sheriff’s Office Middle Keys Capt. Don Hiller, who was off-duty at the time.

How lucky they are to be alive, trying in a desperate attempt to escape in a dinghy boat. I am glad they are alive. Optimistically the investigation will take into consideration the special condition of the Cubans rafters and allow them to remain in U.S. soil, granting them asylum for their desperate attempt to escape.

Cuban asylum seekers in the Cayman Islands planning to go on hunger strike

(CNS): Eight Cuban asylum seekers held at the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) have continued to refuse the meals and refreshments provided, but officials said that they have been consuming some personal food items and they have all been seen by doctors. The purpose of the hunger strike, which began at the beginning of this month, was to draw attention to how long their cases are taking to be concluded. The authorities have accepted that the Cubans have faced an “inordinate delay” and stated that they are considering their release.

The Immigration Detention Centre, which is near the women’s prison at Fairbanks in George Town, is currently detaining 13 Cuban migrants, with just one woman among them. The group of eight men on hunger strike are members of the unofficial Cuban opposition party, the PNC. They are seeking political asylum as refugees but some have been detained for more than two years as that process unfolds.

. They can apply for political asylum, but virtually all are rejected and flown back to Cuba. Most of them arrive to the Cayman Islands due to the fact that their boats need repairs to be seaworthy not to ask for asylum. Some have been detained for more than two years with no resolution.

The fact that many Cubans continuous to risk their lives trying to escape on rickety rafts, is a testament to the failures of the Castroit totalitarian regime. This will end when freedom and democracy are established again and the Cuban people will not have to risk their lives at sea to leave the island.

MIAMI, USA — The US Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo crew repatriated 28 migrants on Friday to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received a report from the Cuban Border Guard last Saturday of a northbound rustic vessel with approximately 25 people aboard. The watchstanders diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo from a patrol to intercept the vessel.

A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine DHC-8 aircraft crew initially located a 26-foot rustic vessel with 28 migrants aboard at approximately 9:30 am on Saturday north of Havana. The aircrew vectored in the Isaac Mayo crew who intercepted the motorized rustic vessel and passed along a child life jacket while remaining near the non-compliant migrant vessel.

According to Progressives the economic reforms, new “president” and new constitution are improving the lives of Cubans so much that Cuba is a great place to live now. Why then Cubans, continues to escape in dinghy rustic rafts risking their lives? Young people, the nation’s future, are leaving Cuba discontent with a bleak future. Many athletes, artists, medical doctors and scientists have deserted while working abroad, despite the reforms, in search of a batter future.
