What many people think is stone throwing....

stones1.jpg

All very innocent and nothing to be concerned with... Right?

The reality when stone throwing and Palestinians are concerned.

Tell me again how stone throwing isn't an issue.

the photos you uploaded are actually harmless, the problem is when they ambush cars (civilians) on highways

There’s a difference between throwing rocks and using a sling. Slings are (archaic) military weapons and proved deadly for thousands of years.

The People of the Shepherd-King David object to the use of sling stones by the resisting underdogs against 21st Century soldiers and vehicles. Goliath is now a Merkeva IV tank. How ironic. If used against military targets, then it's legitimate as part of the resistance to military occupation by the State of Israel. If used against armed Jewish settlers it might be legitimate, depending on the circumstances of the use. If used against unarmed and peaceful civilians, then it is not.

Cheers.

But all we hear is "they were only throwing stones".

I have not heard that in connection with sling use. I haven’t paid close attention. Both occur but I don’t know if the press differrntiates.

Calling use of a sling “throwing rocks” would be like calling use of bow and arrow “throwing pointed sticks.”

They aren't targeting the Merkavas. They are targeting the IDF personal.

Except when they aren't.

Ester Ohana was the first Israeli killed by Palestinian stone-throwing. She was killed on 29 January 1983 when a stone was thrown through the window of the car in which she was a passenger, hitting her in the head.[54]
On 5 June 2001, Yehuda Shoham, a 5-month-old baby, was killed when a rock hurled by stone-throwing Palestinians crashed through the window of the car he was riding in, crushing his skull.[178]
On 23 September 2011, Asher (25) and Yonatan Palmer (1) were killed when the car Asher was driving was attacked by stone-throwing Palestinians, causing it to crash killing him along with his infant son.[179]
On 14 March 2013,[180] the Biton's family car was attacked, near neighboring village of Kif el-Hares, with stones which caused it to get out of control and collide with a truck. Adele Biton was critically injured along with her mother and 3 sisters who were moderately injured, and died two years later.[181]
On 13 September 2015 Alexander Levlovich was killed by thrown rocks that caused his car to swerve out of control in a Jerusalem neighborhood

Hurling a stone could indeed be deadly. It's an attack and should be dealt with appropriately.

I have been paying some attention.... And the press coverage has not addressed the slingers but has only stated "throwing stones" when discussing Palestine.

Fledermaus:

IDF personnel are legitimate targets for those resisting a military occupation. So it's legit. Once the slingers and rock thrower start targeting civilians it is not legit.

What do you mean when you say it is or isn't an issue? Throwing a stone at another person is and should be considered assault. Are there people saying that it shouldn't be?

Some in this very thread unfortunately.

lwf:

In peace time yes. Fighting a military occupation, not so much. Context in part determines legitimacy.

Yes. A military occupation triggered by decades of terrorist attacks and which the occupier offered repeatedly to end in exchange for an end of conflict is the context.

The Palestinians have no more right to attack the soldiers protecting Israeli civilians as they have to attack those civilians in the first place.

If the issue has to be explained it is you that has an issue.

Perception vs. Reality

So explain to this ignorant gentile how a soldier in body armour and helmet, with a plexiglass shield, is going to be injured by a stone thrown from a distance.

One gentile to another...

Perception vs. Reality......

The whole point of this thread....

The pro Palestinians cry "but they are only throwing stones" when in reality what is being done is far more serious...

Why do you think the IDF is wearing body armour and helmet and carrying a plexiglass shield?

Because they aren't stupid enough to accept the "they are only throwing stones" mantra.

Comprende?

It's like the stupid statement that the rockets used are "fireworks" or the "home made" nonsense.

Nonsense; any 'offer' of talks from Israel comes with preconditions that no sane person would agree to. While we're at it let's not forget that Israel was born in terrorism; bombings, assassination, kidnapping and murder, kangaroo courts, booby-trapping corpses. 'The Sergeants Affair' is but one example. Later we can examine the massacre of unarmed refugees in Sabra and Shatila, and the war crime of using Palestinian civilians as human shields.

The Sergeants affair - Wikipedia

Sabra and Shatila massacre - Wikipedia

Human Shields | B'Tselem

Customary IHL - Practice Relating to Rule 97. Human Shields

"utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations" constitutes a war crime.

The body armour is primarily intended to stop bullets. Comprende?
