It is believed that it was the Grand Mufti, Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, who convinced the Germans to create the Final Solution. He was educated in French Catholic schools in Syria, commissioned as an officer during WWI for the Ottoman Empire forces. The British Mandate appointed him Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, a position invented by the Ottomans, replacing his brother who refused cooperation with the British. At this point he had no religious education of significance, but understood post WWI Arab politics demanded religious leaders to counter the Ottoman legacy of governmental secularism. He initially saw himself as liberator for Arabs from Ottoman rule. Almost immediately running into conflict with Chaim Weizman's Zionist movement. He was the main political force promising the lands of Israel as prizes of war for the Arab leaders who united for the 1948-49 war, reserving only rule of Jerusalem for himself, with no plans for a muslim nation. In Syria where he found protection from British Mandate imprisonment for fomenting riots, he was known as the betrayer of Syria, supporting the Allawite usurpation of King Faisal's throne, betraying his fellow Sunni. For that betrayal the Egyptians who then controlled Gaza, tried him in absentia, sentenced him to death. Many believed his preachings led to the assassination of Sadat. He was one of the founders of the Muslim Brotherhood. The first and still the most dangerous muslim terrorist group now outlawed in Egypt, functioning in the background in Syria today.
Hamas, was founded under his written guidance, on the basis of humanitarianism, but as a subterfuge for islamic terrorism, because lying to the infidel was expected as a tool of jihad. He was best known among islamic scholars for perverting Jihad from a personal battle for moral debate to a war cry for Arabs against all infidels. Before he fled the mandate, he personally was known to have led a group who assassinated Hindi servants, administrators and soldiers of the British forces, responsible for the torture and murder of more than 200 Hindi serving in the mandate.
During WWII he raised muslim troops for the Nazis, claiming unlike Britain or Russia, Germans had never gone to war with muslims, conveniently neglecting the role of the Tuetonic Knights who as crusaders conquered Jerusalem and other lands in Syria, Egypt and Israel, establishing a Christian kingdom in Jerusalem after slaying all of Jerusalem's inhabitants with no mercy.
