The New York Times’ editorial board has called for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s ouster after he attributed the genocide of Jews during the Holocaust to their “social behavior” in what the US paper called a “vile speech” earlier this week.

In Wednesday’s editorial titled “Let Abbas’s vile words be his last as Palestinian leader,” the paper called his remarks “a new low,” even for a leader who has shown “anti-Semitic tendencies” in the past.

In an unusual rebuke of a foreign leader, the paper said Abbas’s remarks in front of hundreds at a rare session of the Palestinian National Council in Ramallah fueled anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and demonstrated that Israel does not have a trustworthy peace partner in the PA president. “Feeding reprehensible anti-Semitic myths and conspiracy theories,” it said, “Abbas shed all credibility as a trustworthy partner if the Palestinians and Israelis ever again have the nerve to try negotiations.”
In a rambling speech on Monday, Abbas gave what he called a “history lesson” claiming that Jewish connections to Europe’s finance and banking sectors had bred hostility against them.

Abbas claimed that the Holocaust was not a result of anti-Semitism, but instead the Jews’ “social behavior, [charging] interest, and financial matters.”

Abbas also portrayed the creation of Israel as a European colonial project, saying “history tells us there is no basis for the Jewish homeland.”

Abbas showing his true colors.

So what? Netanyahu stated that the holocaust was the fault of an Arab. Abbas blames the behavior of Jews for the holocaust, Netanyahu blames the behavior of an Arab.

And no, the NYT didn't advocate for Netanyahu to step down after his remarks.

Yeah, so when you say so what it is clear you do not understand anything about this conflict and why it is perpetual.

So in that respect your comment is helpful, I guess.

What am I failing to understand about the conflict? I won't hold my breath in hopes of a meaningful answer.

He's always been an antisemitic holocaust denying buffoon, the only awful thing is how people wait for him to spew such antisemitic nonsense before calling him out.

To blame the Jews for the Holocaust is to basically say the Jews deserved it. It is unsurprising that you don’t have a problem with that. Decent people do, though.

I never said I supported Abbas' statement, and I don't. But are you even aware of the vitriol that your 'good guys' spew on an almost daily basis?

Things like a Netanyahu cabinet member advocating in public for the beheading of Arabs he deems to be 'disloyal', or another of Netanyahu's appointees referring to Palestinian children as 'little snakes', who should die early deaths, along with their mothers, and their homes should be torn down.

I guess I'm indecent for caring about what's occurring NOW, instead of what occurred before even my parents were born.

The holocaust is not justification for treating human beings like animals. Remember that the next time someone talks about 'the social behavior' of your idols.

Palestine Authority Mahmoud Abbas condemned anti-Semitism and apologized to Jewish people offended by his speech earlier this week in which he blamed Jews’ “social function” for the Holocaust, rather than anti-Semitism.

“If people were offended by my statement in front of the [Palestinian National Council], especially people of the Jewish faith, I apologize to them,” Abbas said in a statement from his office. The statement was also broadcast on Palestinian television.
Abbas realized that his remarks going to cost him a lot of money so he "apologized" for saying these things out loud.

:naughty

Unlike the American House of Representatives, I don't take orders from Israelis. :rofl

He’s not giving orders. You asked what should be done and he answered. Don’t want to condemn it? Don’t. Nobody would believe you anyway.

Of course I ment to the international community. I couldn't care less if you condem these remarks or not.

I think it would bother me more if he did because it would be about as genuine as Abbas’ apology.

Arab rejectionist antisemitism and inability to accept any sort of historical reality, combined with the continued indoctrination of generations of Palestinians with the same sorts of vile sentiments reflected in Abbas’ speech is precisely why the Palestinians have never been willing or able to make peace.

But sure, equate Abbas’ horrific yet typical antisemitism with sole random thought about Netanyahu and call it a day.

I stand by my original observation.

Really? And here I thought it was because European practitioners of Judaism forcibly removed them from their land. So yeah, there's also that.

Netanyahu said that the Mufti of Jerusalem was responsible for convincing Hitler to kill Jews. Do you dispute this?

I stand by my original observation.

Your observation is incorrect, and the I/P problem is not the complex and wholly unique situation that you wish it to be.

My initial point was this; Abbas says dumb ****, and so does Netanyahu, Aylet Shaked, Naftali Bennett, & others. Do you get upset when you read what some of Netanyahu's own cabinet members say? For example, I'll demonstrate,

"I already killed lots of Arabs in my life, and there is absolutely no problem with that".
