Sources: Egypt, Saudi Arabia told Abbas to accept US peace deal

Leaders from two important Arab nations have advised Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to accept the peace deal that will be offered by the US, two Abbas advisors told i24NEWS on Thursday. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi both told Abbas that he has no choice but to be pragmatic, according to sources. Abbas was told that Arabs also must accept the new realities and acquiesce to the demands of the US under President Donald Trump. Abbas is now under immense pressure both on the foreign front, from Arab countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and the domestic front, from his own constituency that is widely opposed to the measures proposed by Trump. The position of Egypt and Saudi Arabia runs contrary to the stated position of Abbas and many of his officials.

“There is no value to a Palestinian state without Jerusalem as its capital,” Saeb Erekat, the top Palestinian negotiator, told Palestinian radio in January. Abbas was advised by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President El-Sisi to take what’s offered, especially at the rate Israel is building settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He was told in a few years he may not have anything to negotiate about. A Palestinian source who is privy on the situation said that Abbas has told a number of Arab leaders he met with recently that he is worried he will be accused of treason by Palestinians. Arab diplomats from both Egypt and Saudi Arabia expect Washington to announce its plans on the Middle East in the coming weeks.
Disclaimer - i24NEWS is a relatively new (2017) 24-hour Israeli worldwide satellite broadcaster. I really have no inkling how reliable this media source may be.

always gotta keep the little guy down; at least the Palestinians learned some tricks from the play books of the Irgun, the Lehi, the Haganah and the Palmach.

They are not wrong. I have little doubt the Palestinians won't listen, though. Just add it to the missed opportunity pile...

The Palestinians are now 18 years out from when they could have had their own independent state. That's a full generation that has lived under occupation solely and entirely because the Palestinians preferred to continue their war against the Jews for all of Israel instead of taking a compromise solution that would have given them virtually all of the WB and all of Gaza to have an independent state.

Remember how that didn't really matter because Israel's institutions were strong enough and society resilient enough to allow the next leaders to reflect the will of the people, including by making concessions as part of an offer that were head and shoulders more than Rabin had ever contemplated?

Rabin wasn't a lefty pacifist and was firmly against the establishment of a Palestinian state. Barak and Olmert both offered more independence and more territory than Rabin ever wanted to offer.

Incidentally, that also has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand, which was the Palestinians' decision to reject independence and start a terror war against Israel's civilians, which they lined up to support with their various public celebrations when women and children were "successfully" murdered.

And yet, even the idea of a relatively mild compromise lead to an Israeli zealot---rather than the big bad Palestinians---whacking the Israeli leader.

    Hmm.

hmm what? Since this musing seems to be largely apropos nothing, perhaps you can complete the thought for all of us and relate back to either the original post or my observation relating to it?
