On the eve of the Arab-Israeli war, 50 years ago this week, Israeli officials raced to assemble an atomic device and developed a plan to detonate it atop a mountain in the Sinai Peninsula as a warning to Egyptian and other Arab forces, according to an interview with a key organizer of the effort that will be published Monday.

The secret contingency plan, called a “doomsday operation” by Itzhak Yaakov, the retired brigadier general who described it in the interview, would have been invoked if Israel feared it was going to lose the 1967 conflict. The demonstration blast, Israeli officials believed, would intimidate Egypt and surrounding Arab states — Syria, Iraq and Jordan — into backing off.
So up till the 67 war Israel did not have a weapon ready nuke.
If they had detonated a nuke to prevent a war, would they have been pilloried for this?
Then we have the radiation cloud spreading to other countries.

Shortening the war by 5 days would not have been worth it.

Israel totally embarrassed the Arabs.

Israel was facing a 2-1 troop ratio, 4-1 aircraft ratio, and 2-1 tank ratio. What they didn't have was Rafael Sivron, who played a very huge part in taking over the skies.

And an enemy totally unprepared. How many aircraft did they destroy in Egypt.
Note though from this defeat, Sadat showed in 73, what they could do. When trained and motivated. That shook Israel to the core

RE: ‘Last Secret’ of 1967 War: Israel’s Doomsday Plan for Nuclear Display
※⇒ et al,

Yeah, I like these stories that come out after some years after the sources death; BG Yitzhak Yaakov (87) died four years ago. Hard to question and confirm a story from a dead man.

Remember, even the alleged allegation is about a 50 year old option to a critical outcome to a conflict.

But, Israel never confirms nor denies deep weapon development programs (LASAR, Nuclear, EMP, ADP Warfare Systems, electronic and computer network surveillance programs). BG Yaakov was convicted (2002) of a national security crime in connection with some books he had written.

It was until 2003, that the US dumped its old Single Integrated Operational Plan (SIOP) for nuclear war, with bthe system being completely overhauled. This was about the same time that BG Yaakov got into trouble and the Israelis completely redid programmed responses and the range of targeting options, launch procedures and target sets against which weapons would be deployed. Almost every country had, back then, mission planning centers on a regional basis to handle those issues.

In the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), there is the category of (i) non-nuclear-weapon State Party to the Treaty and (ii) nuclear-weapon State Party to the Treaty. Israel is one of the very small group that is an undeclared state and not party to the NPT.

Even if Israel was to join the treaty, in one category or another, there would be a conflict with Article 52 -- Coercion of a State by the threat or use of force -- Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. Several nations and quasi-nations are attempting to weaken or overturn the independence of the Jewish State of Israel. So even if Israel signed, to satisfy threatening demands by Arab League members, it would have no legal effect. Several Arab League Members (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, etc) have intentionally avoided a Treaty of Peace, and are still at War, under Armistice, with Israel. Remember, the Arab League has attacked Israel more than once in the past, OR has pushed aside UN Emergency Forces in order to establish firm military position and range as a prelude to an attack.

Periodically various sensational journalist attempt to resurrect these nuclear weapons allegations; in an effort to suggest that Israel poses some extraordinary threat to regional peace.

Most Respectfully,
R

They did. And then were beaten back so badly the international community needed to step in to prevent the complete destruction of the entire Egyptian military and, if Israel had actually wanted to, the capture of all of Egypt.
