Israel's Goodwill Gestures Send Wrong Messages [W:99]

I really don´t wanna get deeper in this discussion, because I´m the descendant of the evil anyway and have no right to criticise Israel, but this sentence makes me laugh a little bit.

Judaism is a religion and the Nazis made them a "people" for better demonising them. And now all the Germans, Poles, Russians wich came there after the holocaust claim they are a "people" with natual right on the land where until then only ~20.000 Jews lived.
Isn´t it funny that Israel uses Nazi Propaganda to back their claim on all that land?

The Nazis didn't "make Jews a people", Jews were a people for thousands of years before the Nazis existed, what kind of ignorant nonsense is that? Is that what you came to believe? Seriously? Shocking.

Wow, that's some shallow thinking there.

Israel is economically successful because the US helped them. A lot. The economical success of Israel is a matter of military funding & western support.

The US weren't truly around in the level they are today till after the six-days war, and their contribution while significant to Israel's ability to defend itself especially at those times but also in modern times is still just around one percent of Israel's GDP.

Israel's economic success couldn't come merely from foreign aid, pretty much all failed economies receive foreign aid and continue to be such.

Anyway, the actual reasons are plenty but you can read on some of them here:

https://www.theatlantic.com/busines...sons-why-israels-economy-is-so-strong/260610/

Might be we have to discuss what "People" means for each other. Fact is that before the founding of Israel they were all Poles, Russians, French, Germans etc pp - can someone belong to two "People"?

seems so - might be a mathematical thing. All the Palestina guys belong to "no People" so there is some belonging free..

We don't really have to discuss it, there's Wikipedia for that kind of stuff.

'People' means 'Nation'.

Wikipedia said:
A nation (from Latin: natio, "people, tribe, kin, genus, class, flock") is a large group or collective of people with common characteristics attributed to them — including language, traditions, mores (customs), habitus (habits), and ethnicity. By comparison, a nation is more impersonal, abstract, and overtly political than an ethnic group. It is a cultural-political community that has become conscious of its autonomy, unity, and particular interests

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation

And Jews are a people, a nation:

Wikipedia said:
The Jews (/dʒuːz/;[16] Hebrew: יְהוּדִים‎ ISO 259-3 Yhudim, Israeli pronunciation [jehuˈdim]), also known as the Jewish people, are an ethnoreligious group[17] and nation[18][19][20] originating from the Israelites, or Hebrews, of the Ancient Near East.[21][22] Jewish ethnicity, nationhood and religion are strongly interrelated, as Judaism is the traditional faith of the Jewish nation,[23][24][25] while its observance varies from strict observance to complete nonobservance.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews

Jews are an ethnoreligious people. Meaning they are a people, just like the Dutch or the Japanese they have a shared language a shared history and a homeland where they became a people - but they also have a religion associated with them, that is Judaism.

The Jews you're referring to were Polish Jews, Russian Jews, German Jews, and there were Jews in the land of Israel as well. They were all members of the Jewish people living in those countries. Like there are Greeks whose ancestors left Greece and now they live outside it, so were there Jews whose ancestors were banished from Judea and Israel and lived outside it, most Jews were living outside the state of Israel at that point of time and most Jews still do till this point of time, but that will soon change.

Jews have existed for thousands of years before Hitler was born.
Is this what they're teaching in German schools? That the Nazis had "created" the Jewish people?

I´m out - you missunderstand me with purpose - I have no spare time for that

What an Idiot am I to try a discussion with a hardcore zionist about the "may be" the Arabs have a right to live there as well....

※→ Cisero, CJ 2.0, et al,

Well, I tend to think that claims such as this are just not really factually based.

Wow. Looks like Israel dedicated its resources to the right activities and used their decidedly richer cultural advantages to build a prosperous and successful country.

And looks like the Palestinians' strategy of rejecting peace and independence repeatedly to focus on terrorism, inculcating a death cult among their population and starting wars they could not win may have been ... a subobtimal strategy.

Who would have thunk it?

So clearly that must be racist.

As an aside, I like what you've done with your imagery in leveraging the pathetic fallacy (all bright and sunny with artificially enhanced hues for the picture of Israel, while using grey scale and muted colours for the "typical" image for the Palestinians). Nice bit of propaganda, that.

(COMMENT)

Most of the Arab League members countries in the immediate proximity of Israel get some sort of financial assistance from one or the other Major World Powers. But in the case of the Palestinian Authority, it goes much farther than that. For instance, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (19 January 2017), just for that year Saudi Arabia donated $10 Million just for one project ‘Developing, Furnishing and Equipping the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism’ project at Bethlehem University. The Japanese donated $3.1 Million to the UNICEF [United Nations Children's Fund (formerly United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund)] to be specifically focused on the urgent needs and rights of Palestinian children. It has only been this year that the US donor contribution of $221 Million to the Palestinian Authority (PA) was withheld to examine if the PA met its obligations to the US. Similarly, the European Commission (EC) stealthily made public that the European Union (EU) was would no longer pay the salaries of PA employees in Gaza; as a matter of policy.

While the Palestinians attempt (without much success) to render injury to the economy of Israel with one hand, they are crippling their own economic situation with the other hand. Yes, the US have provided big grants awards and donations to Israel. But that is largely because the balance of power must be sustained in the Israeli-Arab League confrontation supporting the Palestinians. And, it must be remembered, that Israel makes significant contributions in industry, science, medicine and technology to the world on a regular basis ⇒ where the Arab League makes virtual no contribution to humanity. And the Hostile Arab Palestinians (HoAP) spends most of its time and energy devising devious political-military plans to bring about the demise of Israel. In comparison, it is probably much more accurate to say that the HoAP intentionally perpetuates an environment of non-productive activities (wasting opportunities for development and advancement), while Israel invests in the future. And it is that difference which has created the gap between the Israelis and the HoAP in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

That is just the way I see it.

Most Respectfully,
R

Let us gaze upon the luxury the Palestinians have:

Yes, the Israeli's truly are the victims in this

And what about the billions of dollars the Palestinians have received? If it was spent where it should be spent, then they would not be living in areas such as you included. What happens to the billions of dollars? Are you saying the Palestinians don't get aid, or enough aid from the world community? Just curious is all.

Very true.
Hamas prioritize funds for terrorism against Jews before anything else.
They care much more for death tunnels, arms and rockets - means through which they can try and murder Israelis - than building houses and civilian infrastructure.
That has always been the case and that is what you can expect from a terror group that tries to get its own civilian population killed in airstrikes directed against them so to use it for PR purposes.

Next time try and quote my post so I can see that you have responded.

You have not been misunderstood, you actually said:

Judaism is a religion and the Nazis made them a "people" for better demonising them.

Which is what was replied to.

Try to avoid the attempts at personal attacks, even though I find it hysterical that you use the term Zionism without knowing what it's about.

Wow, that's some shallow thinking there.

Israel is economically successful because the US helped them. A lot. The economical success of Israel is a matter of military funding & western support.

No, it's not. It is a matter of the education of their workforce, their culture which facilitates economic productivity, and their governance system which is head and shoulders above anything the Arab world has managed to do (e,.g., wrt corruption, regulatory barriers, competitive markets).

Israel worked to develop their economy and their society and achieved truly astounding results. You can try to trivialize that and dump it off on money from the US, but that's just an effort to shift responsibility away from the Palestinians (and the Arab world more generally) for their crappy economic (and cultural) performance.

This isn't the right place for a history lesson, but you really should read about Jewish history. Jews have been a people, even without a country, for millennia.

Sorry, the point was maybe they have a right to live there as well, and the "argument" in support of that was that Jews were not even a people until the Nazis came long?

What brand of sorcery is this?!?

Couldn't agree more. The more Israel makes concessions and gestures in the face of unrelenting hostility and lies about intentions and actions on the Palestinian side, the worse the prospects for actually reconciling this conflict. Carrots don't work, only sticks. The international community needs to understand this if there is to be any hope of one day ending the conflict.

[h=1]Palestinians: Israel's Goodwill Gestures Send Wrong Messages[/h]

snips:

Here is what is being said on the Palestinian street: Today Israel runs away from the West Bank or the Gaza Strip; tomorrow Israel will run away from Ashkelon, then from Tel Aviv and from there to the sea, and we have achieved our goal of destroying Israel. Therefore, we need to continue attacking Israel.

As with the Gaza Strip, the withdrawal from Lebanon taught the Palestinians that terrorism could drive Israelis out of their country.

Never have the Palestinians given Israel credit for its goodwill steps. On the contrary, they scoff at these moves and describe them as "cosmetic changes". The Palestinian line is that Israel's steps are "insufficient" and "unhelpful." Its concessions are regarded as gestures of a terrified people and as the rightful reward for terrorism. Far from satiating the appetite of the terrorists, such steps prompt them to step up their attacks against Israelis.

• Israeli arms sales to Europe grew from $724M in 2014 to $1.63B in 2015
• Although the size of New Jersey Israel is one of the top 10 arms dealing nations in the world
• Israel produces 60% of all drones worldwide and sells to over 50 countries, at times selling to both sides of a given conflict, and Israel fueled the drones arms race between India and Pakistan

Palestine is an open air weapons testing and crowd control laboratory with Palestinians being used in the development phase; Gaza is a lab of mass destruction. US super bunker busters were supplied to the Israelis in 2014 and investors stock shot up; war is just business after all.

The “War in Terror” has been a boon to the industry, you’ve seen what amounts to advertisement in every “news” outlet, we are being whipped up into a frenzy once again. The industry also pioneers crowd control research on the Palestinians, and Israel is involved in the training of American forces and law enforcement. We see this in the militarization of our own police departments, Ferguson was but one example of how our system is prepping to Palestinianize our own population, and in fact Ferguson now has Israeli developed/sold skunk spray post the Ferguson events, although no incidents have yet been reported of use on American streets. It’s pretty clear that the Israeli occupation style power structure is moving toward the same in America; a warehousing of the poor in a post industrial age with diminishing living wage jobs and privatized for profit prisons complete with a return to convict leasing.

Much of the security monitoring and mass surveillance technologies are also produced in Israel and sold across the globe. “Targeted assassination” was invented in Israel, which Obama was quite fond of. Abu Ghraib torture methods? Israel.

The US and Israel are not allies. The US and Israeli arms dealers are allies, and war is the business they are both in. We human beings are all collateral damage.

Lolz.

All of this nonsense propaganda conspiracy theory junk. With the added typical anti-western /anti-Jewish leftist lens that populations are held to be used as testing grounds for weaponry and their military-industrial complex. There is so much delusion embedded in this it boggles the mind.

A comedian? Have fun "Palestinianizing" your population to test weapons on.

And whatever you do, please continue to ignore that the Palestinians refuse to accept any peace with Israel and the entire conflict continues only because the Arabs have still not been willing to make peace with the Jews.

Cause I know it doesn't fit in your narrative and Chomsky and his fellow communist travelers have told you not to believe reality as it exists but to view everything through the nonsense lens that is the "anti-colonial" propaganda line..

The last thing the Israeli’s want is peace without the cleansing, that’s why many americans feel such an affinity for the Israelis. We share that in our past.

※→ et al,

Many people have expressed the ideas simpler to those of Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory (OHCHR oPt), that Israeli policies bore "unacceptable characteristics of colonialism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing".

There are several factors to consider:
• Do not confuse counter-terrorism (CT) measures in herding (carving out) of the threatening population [Hostile Arabs Palestinians (HoAP)] in such a way as to not further or facilitate injury to the Israeli Population.
• Do not confuse the establishment of a national security posture to assume borders which can be effectively defended against multiple assaults by Arab League Countries (ie 1948, 1967, 1973) with colonialism.
• Do not confuse the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt) with the deputed territories (formerly under Jordanian Sovereignty) abandon into the hands of the Occupying Power (Israel) under the principle of modes of acquiring territorial sovereignty pursuant to the 31 July 88 decree by King Hussein on the announced the severance of all administrative and legal ties with the occupied West Bank.

There mere act of discovery by one state is not enough to confer a title by occupation. There are two requirements:

(i) the territory subject to claim must not be under the sovereignty of nay state ( terra nullius)
(ii) the state must have effectively occupied the territory.

This coming November (2017) will mark the Golden Anniversary for the UN adoption of Resolution 181 (II); and the Centennial - 100th Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. It will also mark the opening of the Civil War in Mandatory Palestine of a half-Century ago.

(COMMENT)

The allegation, of course, is that “unacceptable characteristics of colonialism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing” (Richard Falk - 2014).

• Colonialism: It is ironic that the UN Special Rapporteur would mention "colonialism." The At present, 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories (NSGTs) across the globe remain to be decolonized. It is the job of Committee 24 to monitor them. The 17 NSGT are located five (5) Regions of the world: Africa, Atlantic and Caribbean, Europe, Pacific. See TERRITORIES TO WHICH THE DECLARATION ON THE GRANTING OF INDEPENDENCE TO COLONIAL COUNTRIES AND PEOPLES. There are NO NSGTs in the Middle East at all; including the State of Palestine or Jerusalem. There are only four (4) nations that are still colonial administrators: the UK, US, France, and New Zealand; Israel is not one of them.

Article 7 (1) (j)

§ The conduct was committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups.
§ The conduct was committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against a civilian population.

• Ethnic Cleansing is actually covered under several different crimes. In this case the allegation is the "transfer, directly or indirectly, by the Occupying Power." To my knowledge. since the Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, there has been no transfer or deportations.

Many Arabs "self deported" during the 1948 war and the 1967 wars. One of the sticking points is the right to return to former residences.

What is also interesting is that the West Bank and Gaza was "occupied territory" long before the 1967 war.

Re: Israel's Goodwill Gestures Send Wrong Messages
※→ Fledermaus; et al,

Yes, this is an ongoing debate.

Many Arabs "self deported" during the 1948 war and the 1967 wars. One of the sticking points is the right to return to former residences.
(COMMENT)

The first in this debate is that the "Right of Return" cannot be based on a "retroactive" application.

• 1948 (DEC) Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) never entered into force.
• 1966 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (CCPR), did not go into force until 1976.
• 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) did not go into force until 1976.

The UDHR and associate Covenants are flawed if they are only selectively enforced. They never transition ento customary law.

What is also interesting is that the West Bank and Gaza was "occupied territory" long before the 1967 war.
(COMMENT)

The "Right of Self Determination" is what allowed the Arab Palestinians to make their choice.

Well, here again, the "Double Edged Sword" makes it cut. In April, 1950, after a Parliament in Jordan, made of 50% Arab and 50% Palestinian voted (Self-Determination) to allow the West Bank to become part of the Hashemite Kingdom. It remained part of the Kingdom until the end of July 1988 when Jordan cut all ties. Between 1967 and 1988, the West Bank was occupied Jordanian territory until it was abandon.

Most Respectfully,
R

And yet you are continuing to annex piece after piece of the west bank and other Palestinian territories by flooding them with settlers. It's like someone who moves into a neighborhood and starts stealing land piece by piece from his neighbors then is completely baffled when they don't want to let bygones be bygones.

not only Israel didn't annex land from the west bank since the 60s, Israel didn't found new settlements in the WB for decades now, so your "ongoing land theft" mumbo jumbo is BS.
