Israel wants the White House to explain why a U.S. diplomat preparing President Donald Trump's visit to Jerusalem said Judaism's Holy Western Wall in its Old City is part of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, an Israeli official said on Monday.

Israel considers all of Jerusalem as its indivisible capital, a claim that is not recognized internationally, and the Western Wall - the holiest prayer site for Jews - is part of territory it captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

Israel's Channel 2 reported that during a planning meeting between U.S. and Israeli officials, the Israelis were told that Trump's visit to the Western Wall was private, Israel did not have jurisdiction in the area and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not welcome to accompany Trump there.

The Western Wall is not in Isreal's jurisdiction???? WTF????

This is one of Israel's holiest places, which they captured during the 1967 war. Let us not forget that those who invaded Israel that year had one mission, which was to forever wipe Israel off the map. Israel won that war, and to them go the spoils of war, and their biggest mistake was to not immediately annex it, and settle this issue once and for all. But Israel does consider it part of Israel now, and we need to support that. Someone in the administration has a lot of balls to tell Netanyahu that he cannot pay a visit to a Jewish holy place with Trump. Trump needs to fire him immediately.

I agree with the bolded.

Hmmm...but if he does I wonder how the naysayers would twist this firing as another "catastrophic" error. Probably something to do with racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, or all of the above.

If he doesn't I have no doubt his naysayers will cry this demonstrates his anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel.

I can't wait to see how this works out.

What is an I/P forum and what are "enhanced rules?"

danarhea; et al,

I'm not sure that this question is really an issue.

The US normally puts the Embassy in the vicinity of the Ruling Government. All the major branches of government are located in closed proximity to the Parliament Building in Jerusalem. Whatever the politics of the situation, the fact is, the actual functions of government are located in a cluster about (or very near) the PM's Office on the Government Campus (a 5-10 minute drive from the Downtown Triangle).

there is no question that the Ambassadorial Residence and the offices of the embassy should be in close proximity of the Government Campus.

Most Respectfully,
R

Equally respectfully, this thread isn't about the location of the US Embassy in Israel. It is about the Western Wall and whether Donald Trump's aides should have made the comments they made about whether it is under Israeli or Palestinian jurisdiction. Please try to stick to the topic.
