Mr Friedman now has to be confirmed by the full senate. With the senate weighted 52-48 in favour of the Republicans, Mr Friedman would expect that to happen.[/FONT]

Yeah. I can totally see how peaceful political advocacy which has the goal of stopping needless deaths, is completely similar to being a genocidal racist maniac. I'm also so very glad that someone so nuanced and even-handed might become our ambassador to a highly volatile area of the world.

The use is designed to incite high emotions and to draw the discussion off-center. He is an old school, Ivy League, agitator. Don't worry him. The Israelis will show him the required hospitality. Remember the Israelis understand the Friedman is NOT a Death Camp survivor. He was born in New York.

Friedman is not any more "right-wing" than PM Netanyahu.

• Two-State Solution
• The Palestinians must recognize Israel with its capitol in Jerusalem.
• The Palestinians must renounce terrorism as an alternative means of negotiation.

David Friedman's appointment as Ambassador will (probably) be a year or so.
