And now, this is all changed.

HumblePi:

Peaceful protests as part of the Arab Spring movement --> brutal Syrian Government crackdown --> armed insurrection against the Syrian Government --> civil war --> foreign interventions from five states (Russia, Iran, Israel, Turkey and the USA plus its Coalition) --> a chaotic multi-sided proxy war --> the Rise of ISIL and the Islamic Caliphate --> proxy wars intensify to a crescendo as ISIL is defeated and the caliphate destroyed --> regional concerns and interests replace global concerns in the wake of the destruction of the caliphate --> Turkey moves to secure its own interests (preventing Kurdish autonomy in Syria and resettling millions of Arab Syrians back into Syria) --> ethnic cleansing of Kurds by Turkish forces and aligned auxiliary forces like Ahrar al-Sharqiya --> replace driven-out Kurds with Arab refugees being resettled into the former Kurdish areas --> Kurds screwed again by Western powers.

Other things going on. Israel bombs Iranians in Syria. Iran extends proxies and influence through Syria and into Lebanon. USA first occupies to deny resources and then precipitously retreats from oil-rich northwestern Syria. ISIL prisoners may escape en masse in the chaos.

That's it in a nutshell.

Cheers?
Evilroddy.
