One of the breaking news of the last days became the recognition by the USA that the Golan Heights are the sovereign territory of Israel. The relevant document was signed by US President Donald Trump on March 25 in the presence of Israeli Prime-Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It refers the conflict land on the Syrian-Israeli border, which was annexed by Israel during the Six-Day War more than half a century ago. Despite Trump's appeals to recognize the sovereignty of Israel over the Golan Heights the international community keeps supporting the UN position that considers those lands to be illegally annexed. Such unilateral actions of the American President faced the resistance of Syria and several other Arab countries, Russia, and key European states including Germany and France.

Nevertheless, there are some political leaders in the world who are ready to follow Trump and support the Israeli position on that issue. Thus, for instance, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko may recognize the Israeli annexation of the Golan in near future. However, he is going to do it not with sincere motives to support friendly Israel, but in return of the votes of Ukrainian Jews at the presidential elections. That got known from the correspondence between the chair of the Broad Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the leader of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.

To recap the last Sunday the presidential elections were held in Ukraine. An actor and a comedian Volodymyr Zelensky, and current president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko have broken on through to the second round. It is worth noting the leader of the country is not very popular among the Ukrainians who got tired of endless unfulfilled promises of the authorities. Despite low ratings Poroshenko decided to get reelected and used different tips to get the voices necessary to defeat his main rival Zelensky. During the entire campaign the Ukrainian President was permanently accused of using illegal tricks including massive bribery of voters. The agreements with representatives of the Jewish community leaked out and prove it again there was reason for Poroshenko to be suspected. The bargain between Poroshenko and the Jews is a kind of a bribe. The President, who's not been reelected yet, is selling the most important political decisions of the country.

It is still unknown if anyone besides Poroshenko is going to support Trump's initiative to recognize the territorial claims of Israel. Taking into account the enormous influence the USA has in the world it is likely that there are other followers of Trump. One thing is clear - the decision of the United States will lead to an escalation of the conflict in the highly explosive Middle East and will have far-reaching outcomes for the whole international community.
