Full attack just in time for the six o'clock news.

Good ... smart move on Trump's part.

... after all, during the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing in July: “There is an awful long way to go” Pompeo told lawmakers. He pledged negotiations would not “drag out to no end.

The announced travel stop to NK only means that NK has not been working on denuclearization as was expected by our administration and Trump has thrown the ball back into their court.
If they want some sanctions to be removed, they have to show more willingness.

Excellent move by Pompeo and Trump.

But Trump said Kim could be trusted and that NK was no longer a nuclear threat?

So Trump has just admitted his North Korean summit was a big nothing burger ... as the rest of us already knew but Trumpkins tried to convince us otherwise.

When Kerry/Obama started the Iran negotiations, did you come back after 2 months saying "I told you so - it is just a nothingburger".
No, of course not - because hardly anybody noticed that the Iran "deal" negotiations took 4 years - and the end result changed nothing in Iran's nuclearization.

Pfft ...

Uh ... yes ... I didn't use the term "nothing burger" because that wasn't part of my vocabulary at the time.

But I was a vocal critic of Obama.

Thanks for asking.

Also, thanks for not denying that Trump's North Korea escapade was a bust.

Trump's problem was that he couldn't tell the difference between eggs and chickens. His devoted minions couldn't either. They just couldn't understand why the rest of weren't swooning over his historic accomplishment. Maybe now they'll come to grips with the fact that Trump laid an egg. He didn't hatch anything.

Nobody knew that Asia could be so complicated

*snerk*

Aww...attack didn't go as you planned? Sour grapes looks hilarious on you.

Gotta say, though, going back to the OP...it's nice that finally Trump is giving credit where credit is due for the progress in N. Korea. It was always obvious that it was China, not Trump, pulling the strings. :)

Trump tweets to halt SoS trip to PRNK and chastises China.

Politics and timing.......

You're right. This is politics and timing, though you probably have an incorrect idea as to what the politics and timing are all about.

Think of it this way...

1. You probably didn't know this, but there were three important events regarding trade this week

U.S.T.R. Lighthizer is conducting public hearings on Section 301 impacts.
A Chinese trade delegation is in the U.S. to re-initiate talks.
U.S. President Trump conducts a roundtable meeting with congressional leadership over the Foreign Investment Risk Review and Modernization Act.

All three events directly impact our trade situation with China. They indicate that Trump is serious about the situation.

2. By sidelining the NPRK talks with these tweets, Trump has sent three not-so-subtle messages to China:

Trump correctly identifies China as the controlling force behind NK.
Trump expresses sympathy to Rocket Man for his predicament...not being in charge of his own destiny, that is.
Trump correctly places the responsibility for both the NK talks and the trade talks on China.

Trump also makes a subtle mention of the UN trade sanctions against NK, which are still in effect and which China supported. In effect, this is a reminder to Rocket Man just who his friends could be (the world community)...and who aren't his friends (China) by implying that talks won't resume until the US and China come to an agreement.

Make no mistake...Trump is working China over and they don't like it. I predict the Panda Mask will be slipping and the Red Dragon won't be hiding anymore.
