What moral ground do we stand on calling out Russia for supplying the Taliban? During the ten years the Russians were at war, we had no problem supplying the muhajadeen (sp?). The SAM were targeting and killing Russian aircrews. Our hypocrisy is without limits.

He has to bash them occasionally for optics.

It's amazing what this Country is willing to Forgive and Forget for what they Want.

... hope no one has given their Mother away yet.

Apparently there's no moral ground when it comes to wars, past or present, when it involves the US, Russia, or China.

Look up the difference between the two groups - one is a group that wanted to defend their land, and the other is a group that wanted to enslave their land and exports terror around the globe. See a difference?

Also, it isn't a moral ground, or moral superiority, it's just real world facts. Russia is invading other lands and keeping them (northern Georgia, the Crimea, eastern Ukraine, etc.) and the US hasn't done that since the Spanish-American war. The Taliban kill their own people. The Taliban export terrorism. The Taliban train and equip terrorists for global massacre. The Mujahedeen are/were Islamists as well, but they didn't want or try to attack anyone outside of their own territory.

However, the basic point here is that the Cold War had lots of hot war proxies between the US and the Soviet Union. The Mujahedeen were one that the US used to fight one of those hot proxy wars. Currently, the Taliban are doing the same for Russia, as is Syria's Assad regime, the separatists in Ukraine, and certain groups in Africa and even some in the Balkans.

You see, when any US SecState (including Tillerson, Clinton, and so on) talks about these proxy wars by other names, they're going to say "Russia bad, US good." We shouldn't be even the slightest bit surprised when that happens.

Sad, but true.

It's called International Relations, or IR. Every country works basically the same. What is best for us at this particular moment, is what we support and will do. If our priorities, or needs, change then so will the list of who we will team with and support to reach our priorities and needs.

Nothing sinister, just real life.

Because the Russians were communists...

And the thought was back then Islam>Communism...and the power differential between the two back then was significantly different... Russia was the more dangerous threat by far.

and I sort of agree with that... though it's pretty close.

Regardless of your opinion.... you make it sound so much simpler than it actually is... which I think, is dishonest.

Which is also an opinion. Calling an "opinion" dishonest without any further explanation makes any response difficult without resorting to personal insult!

No.. misrepresenting or outright not stating the complication of the issue... is dishonest in my opinion... regardless of your opinion on the issue or arming/warring in Afghanistan.

A more important question is, how exactly does this jibe with the Russia collusion fantasy?

Well, I wouldn't argue moral claims. At the time we were in official (cold)war with Russia and they with us. Our support was against Russia. So you say that Russia is now officially at war with us again?

Moral grounds are a weirdo reason for war. You are funning us. True?

The "Cold War" was 'official?' Where can I find the declaration?

Tillerson is merely one of those that inhabit Trump's village of idiots. It is proven that Trump constantly contradicts what his subordinates say. What "they say" has no weight. Neither does what Trump says, because he constantly contradicts himself.
