Trump quietly ends CIA's covert anti-Russia program in Syria

It sounds like Trump is delivering on his part of the deal with Putin.

President Trump has decided to end the CIA’s covert program to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels battling the government of Bashar al-Assad, a move long sought by Russia, according to U.S. officials...

After the Trump-Putin meeting, the United States and Russia announced an agreement to back a new cease-fire in southwest Syria, along the Jordanian border, where many of the CIA-backed rebels have long operated. Trump described the limited cease-fire deal as one of the benefits of a "constructive working relationship" with Moscow....

Some analysts said the decision to end the program was likely to empower more radical groups inside Syria and damage the credibility of the United States.

“We are falling into a Russian trap,” said Charles Lister, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, who focuses on the Syrian resistance. “We are making the moderate resistance more and more vulnerable. . . . We are really cutting them off at the neck.”

If the objective is to have a cease fire in place so a diplomatic solution can be worked on, why would the CIA need to continue to arm rebels fighting Assad?
 
OP Title is misleading. Trump is ending our covert aid to ISIS in Syria, and thats a good thing.

This is good news, but many parties are going to object strenuously. I will be pleasantly surprised if this actually comes to pass. The Deep State will Deep Six this effort, but I give DJT 2 stars for his public effort.

Yup. The term "moderate Syrian rebels" is a myth, just like the sham that was called "Free Syrian Army", it was invented by the media to try and drum up support when in fact the majority of the rebels fighting in the war is ISIS, they control a third of the country because of US support. Obama had been sending arms to them and Im glad Trump is finally going to end this ridiculous sham.
