Russian Federation has incarceration rate of 450 per 100,000 population. That is much higher then Australia (152), UK (146), and Canada (114). Russia has 1,820 prisoners serving Life Sentence. Many Russian singers sing about prisoners lives and harsh laws.

USA is The Land of the Free. USA has incarceration rate of 693 per 100,000. There are
159,000 prisoners serving Life Sentence. There are 49,000 prisoners serving Life Without Parole including 2,500 juveniles.

I do not know what to say.

Strangely no one has anything to say. I have bought several hundred good songs in .mp3 format. Many songs are available for free online, but most people here would not understand what they are saying.

Most US life prisoners are losers. Even though many were failed by society and committed crimes before being adults.

Most life prisoners in Russia are people of outstanding talent who have very high status and respect among professional criminals. In Russia earning life in prison is not easy.

Actually, once you relate those figures to the intentional homicide rate, then the USA are nothing exceptional, and the slight remaining difference may be explained by their need to be tougher because of their high homicide rate. It rather seems that Russia is lax and likely corrupted.

Russia: 42 incarcerated per yearly homicides.
France: 85
Canada: 88
UK: 121
USA: 165

To put things in perspective, in France some rapists are released after six months (5-years sentences, shortened to 6 months in jail + 18 at home). Ankle monitors are "playstation sentences": invite your buddies, smoke weed and play games all day long. One of our terrorist got convicted 22 times for independent facts when he was still just a delinquent, many of them with violence. Our system has been made by ideologues for the sake of delinquents and criminals.

A country where criminality is unpunished is not my definition of freedom.

But USA has the highest incarceration rate in the World. Russia had incarceration rate as high during Stalin's reign.

As I demonstrated, the USA have a similar incarceration rate to other countries once you relate it to intentional homicide rate.

The problem is not the US penal system, it is the fact that minorities in the USA are so violent. Which likely has a lot more to do with the toxic cohabitation of multiple identities and the societal cost of laissez-faire.

No, you're only considering homicide rate as you admit. HALF of the prisoners in US are convicted of non violent crimes. Prosecution and sentencing of drug crimes in particular is beyond the gulag. As for minorities being violent, other countries don't have such ghettos and unlimited access to guns, and conservatives are largely to blame for both

There are about 300,000 state and federal drug offenders. They are jailed unjustly. How many in local jails we do not know.

Russia had War on Crime in 1930-1953. The incarceration rate was as high as it is in USA since late '90s.

America's penal system is bigger than Russia's? Somehow I always knew that. :)

I do. We are less tolerant of criminal behavior than some countries and have above average numbers and quality in our police departments.

I have not checked in several years, but 10 to 15 years ago the BOP records showed that just over half the population was in for drug related crimes. Which means that without the drug prohibition, the federal system would be only half what it is today.

The US has led the world in the per capita rate of imprisonment for 25 or 30 years. Back in the time of Aparteid in S. Africa, they used to get close to our per capita rate, but afterwards they are not even close.

The American Gulag thrives.

Putin released the band ***** Riot after about 2 or 3 years in prison. That would never happen in the US.

As i said, particular after trump's illegitimate position, we're better off with a benevolent dictator than this perverse form of 'democracy' with 1000 lobbyists and superdelegates and electoral college at every turn buying hundreds of politicians

You have people serving life for selling pot. No violence, no kids, no guns, life for selling pot.
It's not a criminal justice system, it's a growing industry.

Like who? To get life without parole you have to either sell a huge amount, be involved in other criminality, or have multiple prior convictions. In some cases drug charges are a means to an end to get dangerous people off the streets when you can't prove other criminality (a la Al Capones Tax convictions)

Some laws need to be changed. Point them out to your representative.
