Russia on Wednesday withdrew support for the International Criminal Court, a largely symbolic but defiant gesture rendered more highly charged by uncertainty over President-elect Donald Trump’s stance toward Moscow.

Russia’s move, in the form of a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin and published on the official Kremlin website, came a day after the court had released a preliminary report classifying Russia’s 2014 takeover of the Crimean peninsula as a consequence of armed conflict with Ukraine.

So much for the lies of the Left talking about how Putin and Trump are buds.

It's dead....another grand Western project that has failed.

It joins a long list of poorly conceived poorly executed projects that the know it all elites have tried and failed to ram down our throats.

Exactly. Pointless and pie-in-the-sky to begin with. Not enforceable, especially since these "lawyers" keep on bringing people to trial that they sure as hell don't have the power or the balls to bring to justice.

Just another hare-brained scheme to siphon money and resources from the people, IMHO.

We see here just as with the EU project the decision was taken to build fast on a crap foundation, with the expectation that a decent foundation would be put in later.

Ya see here in the West the bosses spend a ton of energy trying to condition us to go the way they want us to go, or to allow them to go the way they want to go.

This is about UTOPIA building, make no mistake.

Ya, kinda dumb.

I think this is just the latest action in Putins long list of placing two fingers upto the West. It has nothing to do with the election of Trump. Moreover, if he'd been serious on the idea of playing a full part in the ICC it would of been signed long ago.

Russia was never onboard I think. Neither was China.

Exactly. It has zero to do with Trump; or more ridiculously 'the left'.

Not exactly....you will recall that the West has been claiming at least since Tiananmen Square that the Chinese government would fall to the people eventually, we the people got told that we had to play nice with China till it did, everything would work out in the end.

THe Chinese government is still basically still there, but the American people rebelled and elected Trump.

Right after Trump is the perfect time to jam a thumb into the eye of the West.

Via this never fully formed never really worked worth a damn institution.

Uh, this has exactly nothing to do with Trump. At all.

What does Trump have to do with Putin and the ICC? Go ahead, use a blackboard if you need to.

I believe I said something like this in the other thread on this same subject...

This has nothing to do with supporting Russia or not, and it has nothing to do with Putin and Trump dealing with relations between these two nations.

My position is the "International Criminal Court" has been rendered worthless by larger nations with more political pull influencing who is charged with whatever crime. And much like the UN these days, the efforts of this court are submarined by the major players involved all interested in their own ambitions and goals. As a mechanism for justice, there are too many holes in the plan where it can both be ignored by the right people and used as a weapon by other people.

Putin ignoring the ICC because of Crimea is no big surprise, and is not all that different than Bush 43 ignoring the ICC and being convicted in absentia in 2012. Other leaders from other nations, primarily in Africa, have also pretty much ignored charges and convictions from the ICC.

In the end the ICC is the wrong application of the right idea, to ensure that world leaders are held to war crimes when they are committed. The problem is, it rarely happens and when it does no one really cares.
