The Obama administration is contemplating an unprecedented cyber covert action against Russia in retaliation for alleged Russian interference in the American presidential election, U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.

Current and former officials with direct knowledge of the situation say the CIA has been asked to deliver options to the White House for a wide-ranging "clandestine" cyber operation designed to harass and "embarrass" the Kremlin leadership.

Why make it public? How stupid!

Seems like they're scapegoating Russia as an excuse to put the authority and control of our elections into the hands of the Department of Homeland Security.

Just my opinion though, don't go spreading it around.

I can think of several possible reasons off the top of my head.

  1. To **** with Russia, forcing them to spend lots of effort and manhours to counter the threat
  2. As a veiled threat of what will happen if they continue to hack US computers
  3. As a show of force, letting them prepare before still blowing through their networks
  4. We already have hacked in, left some fancy spyware, and want to watch how they react
  5. Related to the last one, we are already in and have left some fancy spyware as we stole hundreds of gigs of files, and are watching to see which of those files they consider important, to speed up finding things
  6. We did not want this to be public, some one talked when they shouldn't have
  7. Many more possibilities

Are any of those true? Who knows, though they are more likely than your assumption that it is just stupid. The lesson here is that just because you cannot figure out a reason does not mean there are no good ones.

Good post. I was just trolling and ....you bit.

Another possibility is the continual misdirection away from Hillary's email scandal and wikileaks...using Russia, Trump to misdirect people's attention.

That would be really stupid since the only people going to pay much attention to this are Russia and people who mindlessly whine about everything Obama does.

I don't agree on that....any misdirection that they can come up with(let no crisis go to waste)they will attempt.

What, kinda like bitching that the government might, maybe, possibly, if they get approval, do something, to try desperately to draw attention away from all Trump's scandals? Did you think no one noticed?

It seems the administration doesn't do covert in a very covert way.

Clandestine sort of means secretive................... right?

I wish one could view such things in a straight forward manner with no suspicion nagging. But the way the liberal redefinition of Constitutional citizen rights is progressing. ...

I'll treat it as a covert action and keep mum as any good unnamed source in the agency. ;)

Biden said "At a time of our choosing."

Ambiguous.

It would be nice to see a big batch of Putin e-mails about his money laundering transactions and black offshore accounts.

Plus the Trump scandals are already doing the job. No reason to release this now, if the goal is deflecting, when could easily wait a week or two when it might be more needed.

A waste of Tax monies.

We should simply be goading the former Soviets into an industrial automation race under the color of the Best form of Socialism in the Entire World; where the wealthiest can get bailed out and keep their multimillion dollar bonuses while on means tested corporate welfare, and the least wealthy can still have steak and lobster on their EBT cards.

The Trump scandals are being exposed right and left, as a fraud and dirty tricks by The Clinton campaign..... from many sources.

Trump's poll numbers were down 7% last week, now he is back up by 2%. See the Lou Dobbs vid.

Defending anything Hillary does or says is......LAUGHABLE! People that would do that ought to be ashamed of themselves for supporting a lying crook!
