Colombian President Santos wins Nobel Peace Prize

Has been awarded to Columbia president Juan Manuel Santos "for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-year-long civil war to an end." My congratulations!

However, the accord between Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) broke down after it did not pass a national referendum. I fervently hope the Columbia peace process gets back on track.

My personal choice for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize was the 3,000 Syrian 'White Helmet' 24/7 volunteers who locate both the living and the dead after air strikes and missile attacks.

On 23 September, three of the four White Helmet operation centers in Aleppo were struck by air strikes.

It probably would have been more desirable had he won the referendum.
