Consider that the US has recently signed a military logistics agreement with India which allows US troops to be stationed on Indian military bases, and is part of a wider realignment between India and the US that will see India increasingly help to contain China. It's against that backdrop that India is now becoming much more assertive towards China.

China will not like that at all, as it increasingly tries to appropriate its neighbours' possessions.
