What's wrong with open Borders?

I just don't see why this wouldn't work.

I support opening of the borders of the United States; in other words, anyone can become a legal resident as soon as they arrive just by registering with the immigration agency.
The United States is a vast country, there is so much land that is almost uninhabited. We have the 12th lowest real population density of any country, so feeding immigrants wouldn't be a problem. Most immigrants either do menial jobs that almost no native-born US citizens will do, such as working in meat packing plants or in pesticide-soaked fields for miniscule wages, or have skills that are in such high demand that opening the borders wouldn't cause a significant problem for native-born citizens, such as computer science and medical jobs.

Finally, the United States, and other colonial powers like the UK, France and Japan, have an ethical responsibility to try to make up for the injustices they have done to developing nations. In addition to committing genocide against the indigenous peoples of this land, in this hemisphere alone the United States: overthrew a social democratic government in Guatemala because it was having success with land reform; subjected the Sandanista government in Nicaragua to right-wing Contra rebels; overthrew via the CIA the democratically-elected Salvador Allende in a coup in Chile because of his democratic socialist polices; and son on and so forth. Let us also not forget the damage done in Africa, not just with the Slave Holocaust, but also with the overthrowing of leaders such as Patrice Lamumba in favour of criminal thugs such as Mobutu Sese Seko.

Therefore, I think open borders should stop being just a snarl word and be taken seriously as a mainstream immigration policy position.

In case you haven't been keeping up with current events we are battling a coronavirus pandemic.

which has zero to do with immigration...especially considering we should be concentrating on emigration more than immigration at this point....we are the number 1 hot spot in the world.

I explained clearly why one would make that assumption... it is default because of what you are arguing against... not what you said.

No, there was no reason to make any assumptions about what I said....there is no in between the lines.

It has everything to do with immigration, one of the many reasons for sealing the border is to keep disease out.

um no...especially when we are the diseased ones. You do realize that all legal immigrants are screened for diseases right? Even in an open border situation(which I am opposed to) all people coming through would be checked.
We get more diseases from anti vaxxer idiots and Trump supporters than any immigrant any day of the week.

That whole second paragraph has nothing to with the topic you introduce.

The US has the third largest population among all nations.

Open borders are pretty stupid. Do you lock the doors on your house when nobody's home? If yes, why do you do this? Do you also recommend open vaults in banks?

The identity of a country is derived from its traditions and history, pretty much like a family. The traditions and history of any family is what it is. That set in the US has stood up a pretty beneficial society that helps everyone here.

Introducing other elements will do what it does. Might make things better and might make things worse. Will definitely make things different.

As a socialist, you probably haven't already worked several decades to execute the plans and daily work spanning years needed to reach goals set decades ago.

Those of us that have see the emptiness in your ideas.

Out of curiosity, are you suggesting that the incoming new residents, made legal under your plan, would be required to settle on the "almost uninhabited" land within our borders?

Why is every other nation doing it if it doesn't work?

really?
Are 'Illegal Immigrants' to Blame for Measles Outbreaks Across the U.S.?
No factual basis exists to support the claim that illegal immigrants are the cause of the increase in U.S. measles outbreaks. But multiple pieces of evidence do support the claim that unvaccinated people who have traveled to areas with high rates of measles and then returned to the U.S. are the cause of the uptick. As of 30 April 2019, measles outbreaks — defined by the CDC as three or more simultaneous cases in the same area — were identified in nine geographic areas:

The cases in New York State’s Rockland County and New York City, for example, have been tied to an unvaccinated Orthodox Jewish child who picked up measles on a trip to Israel, and who then spread it among the largely unvaccinated community to which that child returned. As reported by New York City’s Health website:

every other nation also shoots people before they are tried for a crime and also prohibit gun ownership by the population...should we follow what other countries are doing or what is right?

Why are nations world wide closing their borders?

where did I say they were better run or safer? Lie much? I said that they had a better handle on testing than we do....anyone can get a test there by walking into a lab and requesting one....we however have to be on our death bed to get one.

That is a lie.

No one needs to be on their deathbed to be tested.

And, no. Telling you that you lied isn't a reportable act.

actually, it is true. I went in to the ER as directed by MY DOCTOR to get tested...the ER said the only way they test you is if you are tier one...tier 1 is critical care.

The ball is in your court to prove anyone can be tested that wants to be...simply by walking in the ER or a lab testing facility.

Tier 1: hospitalized patients and symptomatic health care workers

Hospitalized =/= Deathbed.

Hospitalized =/= Critical care

Tier 2: people at high risk of complications who also have symptoms, including people in long-term care facilities, people ages 65 and older, people with underlying conditions and first responders

These folks are being tested as well

Tier 3: critical infrastructure workers with symptoms, health care workers and first responders without symptoms, people with mild symptoms in communities with high COVID-19 hospitalizations, other people with symptoms

I know these too are being tested as warranted.

Tier 4: people without symptoms

Clinicians who suspect a patient may have COVID-19 should contact their local or state health department immediately to determine if testing is warranted and to receive guidance on collecting specimens.

So, your personal experience means squat.

The ball is in your court to prove anyone can be tested that wants to be...simply by walking in the ER or a lab testing facility.

Did I ever make that claim?

No.
