One of my biggest problems with illegal immigrants

One of my biggest problems with illegal immigrants is not them committing crimes, it is the liberals supporting multiculturalism. They are so afraid of being called racists and bigots they believe these people do not have to assimilate to our culture.

I can tell you the immigrants that were coming in our country in the 50-70s were very proud people that wanted to be Americans. They wanted to assimilate and embrace American culture. They embraced being called Mexican American, or Japanese American etc...

Today, immigration advocates demand the complete opposite. Come to our country, use our resources but do not assimilate because America is racist.

People that come to our country should take pride in being an American. They should want to adopt American principles and ideals like hard work and self-reliant. It seems asking these people to show pride in America is no longer acceptable?

That is a major problem. By not demanding them to assimilate, it is more likely these people will hold views that are grotesque to us. Support of Anti Semitism, support of genocide, etc

Read your history. Ben Franklin said much the same about the new wave of German immigrants in his time. The Know Nothings said the same about the Irish. The biggest lynching in our history was of several Italian immigrants in New Orleans. Jews were lumped with Italians as unwelcome. None of my grandparents spoke English, my parents both Italian and English, my sister and I, despite some cuss words in Italian, only English.

There is nothing new here. Immigrants are much the same, as is resentment or mistrust of the latest batch of arrivals.

Not really that person oppose illegal immigration. But making it easier to immigrate isn’t rewarding illegals. It’s making easer so they don’t feel like the have to break the law.

You sound like they are entitled to come here.

No not all. We need them. It takes hard people to make this country run. We need people who are willing to do jobs that may cost them their lives for a pay check. Most of our younger generation can’t do it. They want easy jobs. They are for sure not going to risk their lives for a job. I see it every day in my industry. I will give anyone a job. But these kids would rather work at McDonald’s making $10 an hour. Then come work for me starting at $22 an hour with at least 50 hours a week. Right now we are pushing 84 hours a week. The young kids I do get to come to work are mostly 2nd generation immigrants. We don’t hire illegals so they have to be legal immigrants. It’s not that they deserve to come here it’s that we need them. Most of the jobs they do are in the 3 top most deadly jobs in the USA.

Maybe if we make employers pay higher wages, more native-born Americans will be willing to work at these dangerous jobs.

I work this field yes I’m a foreman but I made 150k last year. Most journeyman make 130k a year. How much more money do you want to get paid.

I dont mean these particular jobs. I was talking about those jobs that "cost lives" that supposedly only immigrants could do. The ones you mentioned in post # 53.

Yes that’s a job I do. 80% of everyone I work with is either a immigrant, child of an immigrant, or Native American from a reservation. They all make about 130k a year once they become a journeyman. I keep trying to bring in younger Americans into my line of work at most they last a month before quitting because it’s to hard. I hear it over and over. They would rather do an easy job for much less pay. Without farmers and truck drivers and construction workers are society falls apart.

Explain to me how it is prejudice to not want someone to enter the country illegally?
I have no issue when legal means are used. Labeling me prejudice must be an east coast thing.

You said this, for example:

They have no desire to learn.

Unless you've personally worked with immigrants to try to get them on their feet in American society, you have no room to say that, cause you don't know what you're talking about.

This is close to rewarding people for breaking laws. Come into the US illegally, pop out a kid, wait a few years, and then your child is made a citizen.

Fourteenth Amendment. :)

I think I made it pretty clear that I don't support open borders. But there is the matter of the Fourteenth Amendment. There's also the manner in which ICE conducts raids.

Notice I said the manner, not the fact that they're doing it. I'm not on board the "abolish ICE" bandwagon yet.

And is it a good thing to you? I mean, people sneaking into the US to give their kids citizenship? I didn't ask you if it was legal. I ask you if it's a good thing.

I was actually defending you here. I agree that immigration need to be here legal. I also don’t like they way that we deal with illegal immigrants.

Yes, I am grateful for the Fourteenth Amendment. :) Are you?

I am not talking about the 14th. I am talking about illegals sneaking into the US, pop out a kid, wait a few years, and then the kid gets citizenship. Does this sound like a good thing to you?

I lived in San Antonio for several years. The city is well over 50% Mexican American. I even lived on the East Side of the downtown area when money is tight, a part of town over 90% Hispanic. Virtually everyone I came into contact with spoke English, I even used the busses daily often being the only caucasian on the bus, everyone spoke English, all signs in English.

On 4th July the East Side would have several events, most folks with American flags displayed proudly. On Cinco De mayo the Mexican flags along with the the Stars and Stripes are displayed. Perhaps the OP would like to explain circumstances were immigrants did not assimilate and how it effected him personally.

the first step would be to actually show up at their scheduled hearing, most don’t and thus, are here illegally...and the left is more than fine with this, discusting display of patriotism, call em out where you find em and make defend their position.
