Democrats running for re-election in the 2018 midterms are being advised to not speak about the issue of immigration as consultants admit the zero-enforcement, open borders positions of the Democrat Party are unpopular with swing voters... In a memo obtained by the New York Times, left-wing consultants with the Center for American Progress and the think tank, Third Way, advised Democrats running for election to spend “as little time as possible” talking about the immigration issue facing the nation, where more than 1.5 million immigrants are admitted to the country every year.... The New York Times reported:
“Sanctuary attacks pack a punch,” says a four-page memorandum, prepared by the liberal Center for American Progress and the centrist think tank Third Way, that has been shared at about a dozen briefings for Democrats in recent weeks. The New York Times obtained a copy of the memo, whose findings are based on interviews and surveys conducted over the summer. [Emphasis added] … Democrats, the strategists who prepared the memo advised, could neutralize the attacks if they responded head-on. But they should spend “as little time as possible” talking about immigration itself, and instead pivot to more fruitful issues for Democrats like health care and taxation. In an April Harvard/Harris Poll, nearly 2-out-3 supported reducing legal immigration levels to the U.S. In May, 52 percent of swing voters opposed allowing big businesses to import more foreign workers to compete against their fellow citizens for coveted blue-collar and white-collar jobs.
Most specifically, 61 percent of swing voters in battleground districts who said immigration has changed their community claimed those changes are making life “worse” in America.

What three weeks to the election? A little late now to try and hide the last two years of open borders, full amnesty, disband ICE rhetoric, the disgraceful actions and lies against Kavanaugh, the shooting of Congressman Steve Scalise and physically attacking Rand Paul.
Republicans will just run commercials showing their true Agenda, with video to back it up. TDS certainly made the left go Bat Crap Crazy using everything in the book of Alinsky and NOTHING stuck except the violence and hate they showed, that no one can forget, and an overwhelming number of us won't forgive.
Whys is it that Progressive Marxist Socialist/DSA Democrats think people will forget their calls to abolish ice, open the borders their false attack on Kavanaugh, #Antifa violence in Portland Oregon, etc.?
There's a reason PMS/DSA Democrats adhere to their own version of Islamic Taqiyya, the belief that it's acceptable and even necessary to lie about their beliefs and intentions. Win at all costs. The end justifies the means. All teachings of the Great Deceiver.

Few are proposing removing borders. Many are in favor of removing enforcement in the theory that “all humans should be mobile”

In today’s political terms it means swamping the white and middle class and the conservatives all at once in a wave of amnesty to likely democrat voters.

But the fear-based appeal demonstrates how Mr. Trump has overcome months of negative headlines about his hard-edge immigration policies to make the issue a potentially profitable one as Republicans try to preserve their slim Senate majority and defy projections that they will lose the House.

Democrats, the strategists who prepared the memo advised, could neutralize the attacks if they responded head-on. But they should spend “as little time as possible” talking about immigration itself, and instead pivot to more fruitful issues for Democrats like health care and taxation.

The strategists worry that Republicans’ foreboding immigration message is far more personal to most voters than the more modulated position of Democrats, whose push to protect the young immigrants known as Dreamers and to ensure humane treatment of undocumented people does not, in many cases, affect voters themselves.

The idea being that misleading tactics by Republicans has polluted the Immigration debate, telling Democrats who are facing challenges in these States that Trump carried in 2016 not to bother with that issue to sway voters.

The deception by both sides has harmed the issue to run on.

"On Wednesday, the House voted on a bill that simply expressed Congress' "continued support for all United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and personnel who carry out the important mission of ICE" and "the efforts of all Federal agencies, State law enforcement, and military personnel who bring law and order to our Nation's borders."

Such nonbinding resolutions don't have the force of law. They're just a statement.

Just 18 Democrats voted for this resolution. Thirty-five voted no. And the other 133 dodged the issue altogether by voting "present." Democrats complained that the vote was just a political stunt."

"Democrats want to neuter the one agency responsible for enforcing border security. They want to make it easy for illegals who cross to stay in the country. And they want to give them the right to vote.

Do we have keys to our borders? There are already about 12 million people here we failed to keep out not to mention millions of people coming and going with legal visas every day. We clearly can't keep track of them. We can't even keep track of a couple thousand children. A wall around the entire country is absurdly unfeasible and would not work in any case, there has never been a wall that could not be breached. Plus current policy doesn't let people leave once they are here. We are effectively locking them into our country. These people are paying others to sneak them in, when they could be paying us to enter. Most of them just want to work and get out of failed states than can't protect them. Given the opportunity, they would prefer to obey the law rather than become fugitives but we give them no choice. We spend billions of dollars trying to keep people from crossing the southern border, fail miserably, but continue to follow the same failed policies. We don't want to spend the money to round them all up and deport them. Trying to do that would require massive military intervention in our cities and towns. At this point many of them have offspring who are citizens. Your analogy makes no more sense than our current immigration policy.

Sales tax. That's about it. With open borders, the majority of immigrants would be low skill, low wage workers. And they don't pay taxes, they take taxes.
 
Lying about positions in order to get votes seems to be the tactic of choice for other candidates, too.

Documented immigrants pay the same taxes everyone else does. In fact they could be asked to pay more. The undocumented fugitives in this country now do not have access to social services citizens do. They can't get SS, or Medicaid, they can't get food aid. The only thing they can do is go to an ER if they are sick and most of them are afraid to do that. They do send their children to public schools but local schools are funded by state and local taxes which undocumented people clearly pay.
