Military base calls immigration agents on pizza delivery man

More developments are going on; his American wife Sandra Chica has filed a petition trying to block his deportation. I was looking at Yahoo News comments - while I think that Yahoo News commentators are predominantly right wing, I've seen left wing comments there too, at least some 30% of the time. In this story, close to 100% of the comments seem to be against this couple. People are saying, his opportunity to avoid deportation was 8 years ago when he entered the voluntary departure arrangement, but failed to uphold his end of it, and willingly chose to remain illegal.

I find it curious that he never wanted to do the right thing; people here said that the fees for these legal immigration procedures are steep and he couldn't afford them as a pizza delivery man. How come now that he's been caught, his wife suddenly found the money to file (presumably with legal aid) a petition to block the deportation? Couldn't the couple have found similar means (Hispanic charities, immigration advocates, fund-raising, etc.) to proceed legally, before the situation got to this point?

People are saying that appealing to the fact that he has two American-born daughters and is married to an American citizen makes for touching headlines but no criminal avoids incarceration just because he/she is a parent and/or a spouse. People are saying that he brought this family tragedy upon himself by choosing to disobey the law.

I'd agree.

I'm to the left of the political spectrum when I consider the issues I support or abhor (illegal immigration is one that I abhor so on this I'm more to the right), and my voting pattern is more to the left because I pretty much vote Democrat in all federal elections (I've voted for Republicans in some focused local races). But when the left jumps to the defense of this illegal alien who had a path to citizenship ahead of him (by being legitimately married to an American citizen) but chose to remain illegal (it's not like he didn't have options and was acting out of necessity), that's when the left loses many voters. This almost 100% rate of negative comments towards this couple (his American wife is also getting some flack for harboring, aiding and abetting an illegal alien) shows that the American people almost unanimously won't approve of this behavior. I'm saying almost because I don't have the time to browse all comments so I can't say for sure, but I haven't found *a single one* yet that supports this man. That *is* unusual, even if Yahoo News comments section is not a statistically valid representation of the entire political spectrum.

What part of the work illegal the left doesn't seem to understand?

Keep endorsing unpopular views like the defense of this man, and keep losing elections. This is not good. I'd like to see leftists saying "while we are compassionate and understand the plea of some people who see themselves with no other survival option or no other way to feed their children other than trying to come to the United States and believe that immigration laws need some sort of reform, we can't support an illegal alien who had a clear path to lawful immigration ahead of him but willingly chose to remain illegal. The law of the land needs to be followed.

Sorry for the kids, but I still have no sympathy for this man, and very little for his wife.

And I have no sympathy for Nonna Pizza either, the business that employed him. And now restaurants in the area are refusing to deliver food to the military base. So now our military is being penalized for following the law? This is crazy.
