Anti-'sanctuary state' movement picks up steam in Orange County

Just more than a week after tiny Los Alamitos voted to defy California's law protecting immigrants in the country illegally, Orange County is poised to become a counterpoint against the state's resistance to the Trump administration's policies.
On Tuesday, Orange County supervisors may consider whether to take up a resolution to condemn and possibly take legal action against the state's "sanctuary" laws.
"These state laws are preempted by federal law," Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson said. "Our officers actually face penalties under state law if they so much as talk to federal agents for the wrong thing. That's just unacceptable and it's contrary to federal law."

Nelson said he'll broach in closed session whether to join a federal lawsuit against the state or launch its own litigation.
Either they're conservatives or the illegals are overrunning their system to the breaking point. Maybe there are a few people who've read the US Constitution.

I grew up in CA and Orange County specifically.... but man, the last few visits back to the States over the last 5 or 6 years was an eye opener. There were always lots of Hispanics but they are everywhere now. It was unbelievable. At the Golden Gate Bridge I would say that 80% of the people there were Hispanic. Nothing wrong with it except I felt hostility from a bunch, especially at the Bridge... and the fact that basically none were speaking English.

Good for them. It's time citizens demanded their own rights be respected and if the illegals and their democrat enablers are mad, the can go protest in whatever home country they come from and demand changes there.

For the most part I don’t like the federal government telling state governments how thy run their affairs. But I also feel the same about state governments telling local governments how to run their affairs.

We should kick all the swarthy types out of the country and make America great again!

MAGA and all that.

That might sound "cool", but this is a serious issue and no joke. Lets not forget that we are talking about people here, on both sides. The citizens of this country, while perhaps dissatisfied with the influx of illegal immigrants, are not quite as callous and some may want to portray them. A humane solution can be found, and all that vicious and unnecessary rhetoric won't help.

That's not just in LA, and we have ourselves to thank for it. We don't hear "3 for French" or "4 for Japanese" when dialing some company, the signs in our stores are in 2 languages, no more.
Going to stores around here is like going to another country. Staycation anyone?

The problem, as I see it, is illegal immigrants entered the country illegally. This is a crime which the left has tried to forgive and forget. Now these people wish to have all the rights of citizenship, but they wish to do this illegally and not by the book; social benefits and the vote before they are legal citizens. There is resistance against this second crime being sanctioned and/or ignored. Sanctuary cities took immigration crime entitlement, one step further and now even allow illegal immigrant criminals to escape justice for violent crimes. That is entitlement to crime, strike three. The left should have stopped at strike two, because now they out. Why does the left support crime? Crime was needed to help them rig the election system.

The 2020 census will have a citizenship question, which creates friction for the assumed illegal rights of immigrant citizenship. The left did this to themselves when they decide to swing for strike three. This will be damage California, since they will lose congressional seats and lose federal moneys making it hard to deal with their army of illegal non citizens, which they can no longer exploit. Citizens of California are anticipating the impact of the future and are being proactive. Many are trying to turn strike three into a foul ball but it may be too late since the umpired ruled.

The left is frazzled and making rookie mistakes. The left would have been better off defining sanctuary cities, only for honest immigrant illegals, while helping ICE deal with the darker criminal illegal immigrants. They may have stayed under the radar with only two strikes against them. Fake news was convincing enough for the first two strikes to confuse the issue, but it can't help with strike three and this will reverse the trend.

I usually see mostly Asian tourists at the bridge, but you can hear just about every language on earth at GG bridge, and some of the other tourist spots. They don't seem to make it out to the Tenderloin as much lol.

We were just there. Took my daughter to see Grace Cathedral. Got a bit turned around somewhere around Union Square trying to get to the 80 and ended up on skid row. What the hell? Was just a few block from Barney's. Hadn't been to that part of town in a long time. Generally I just head back to Van Ness and make my way back North.

Indeed. Seems that certain areas of California haven't taken leave of their senses. Also seems to show that Sacramento isn't very much in touch with many other locals in California, who are objecting to their shoving the liberal agenda down the entire state's collective throats.

For the most part I don’t like the federal government telling state governments how thy run their affairs. But I also feel the same about state governments telling local governments how to run their affairs.

There is that fine line where the supremacy clause runs out, the extracting of labor and costly manpower to enforce federal immigration statues already on the books. But that's much different than open thwarting of the same that we've seen from the Sacramento leftist political elites.

The AG has threatened to arrest the Orange county sheriff. That I have got to see.

Deed is much different than threats. I don't see the grounds on which the AG can arrest the sheriff, and don't you think that it would cause a huge sympathetic response in the pubic for the sheriff? Do you think the AG would risk that? I'm not thinking so.

Won't be the only place. Depending on outcome, we should be able to determine how much of this "pro illegal" fanfare is media fed and what the citizens really want.

I suspect that it'll be found to be isolated to Sacramento's elites, Hollyweird's elite's, and the news (political propagandist) media, who all subscribe to illegal immigration, and don't have to deal with the outcome of that influx illegal of immigration.

Lol, many a tourist has taken a wrong turn while around the Union Square/Nob Hill area, and ended up in the TL. And at night, around 11 or so, many of the zombies from skid row end up wandering east, into Nob Hill. Sounds like you and your daughter were in a car, which far better than being on foot in that area. The weird thing about SF's skid row during the day, is that most of the people you see on the street corners don't even live there. Many of them don't live in SF at all, they take BART in to the city from Oakland/Richmond.

We lived in Calistoga and then Sebastopol before moving here so we were not SF locals....yeah... in a Lexus which made me more on edge... like more of a target... lol

Got on the 80 traffic jam. That was fun. SFs road system sucks.

If any crazy people approach your Lexus while in the TL, just shout out that you voted for Obama, lol. He's still the messiah in parts of SF, and murals of him don't get tagged over.

Almost no one who lives in SF is from there. If you meet someone who lives in SF who was born there, they're probably very rich, or very poor. Not much in between.

I don't get up to Napa county much, but I like it up there. When did you live there? Some of the homes up there were killer investments if you bought right after the crash.

Sold. But drove through in Jan. A disaster... the fires on Mark West Spring Rd. The fire damage was out of control. Lived off of Calistoga Rd. All rich people are north of the bridge now. Lol.
