I keep hearing about a "path to citizenship" for DACA people and/or illegal immigrants in general. No one seems to elaborate on it, though. What would be the process for a "path to citizenship"?

Although I identify as a liberal, one of the things I would want to see is "basic functionality in English" as a requirement.
It's the main language, and they don't have to be fluent, just able to get by is good enough.
You cannot come to live in a new country and not speak the main or dominant language.
You cannot come to live in a new country and not mainstream a little bit.

The rest is the usual, no criminal record, something to offer, even if it's a decent work ethic and a lot of labor experience, as long as you can demonstrate something of value. We have enough dishwashers. A good health checkup is a good idea.
If you are too young to have extensive work experience, good school grades will do.
Learn something about your new home, it will be of value to you.

DACA status should come with strings attached. First, current DACA recipients should be exempt from requirements to leave the country to apply for legal re-entry. Their next renewal application should require that they apply for a visa, green card, or citizenship otherwise they should not be granted an extension of temporary legal residency.

In short, a politically designed mess of a system. But that said I do not think Trump has said much about what all would be involved other than time.

When Democrats say that they mean amnesty. They lack the will to create these so called "paths" when they have control of the legislature.

It depends on negotiations. I'm not sure how it would be done exactly. I'm sure Republicans want a path to legalization, not citizenship. Legalization offers most benefits of being a citizen, but they can't vote. Their kids will be able to, though.
