Why Trump voters need the immigrants they want to turn away - CNNPolitics

(CNN) The irony in President Donald Trump's hostility to immigration, expressed again in reports of his vulgar comments about Africa and Haiti last week, is that in appealing to the racial and cultural resentments of his political base he is directly threatening their economic interests.

The equation is unmistakable: as America ages, the older and blue-collar whites at the core of Trump's electoral coalition in 2016 need more working-age immigrants to pay the taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare.

Without robust immigration, each American worker will need to support substantially more retirees in the future than workers do today. And that will greatly increase the pressure for either unsustainable tax increases or biting benefit reductions in the federal retirement programs that the older and blue-collar whites central to Trump's support rely upon so heavily.

Trump's hostility to immigration ignores one of the central dynamics of 21st century American life: an increasingly non-white workforce will pay the taxes that support Social Security and Medicare for a rapidly growing and preponderantly white senior population.

"As every baby boomer retires over the next 15 years, we are going to need many more of these (diverse) young people to take their place," says William Frey, a demographer at the center-left Brookings Institution.

It may play to his red neck, anti-immigrant base, but it has not been clearly thought out. 'Cutting off your nose to spite your face' comes to mind here.

Blah, blah, blah...another Trump-hater talking potato head who doesn't know the difference between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants.

(or...he DOES know the difference, but doesn't think the useful idiots reading his drive know)

A needless hit piece. No one is against legal immigration except a small minority of racists. The majority of American's have wanted secured borders and streamlined immigration (so that immigrants have an easier time of immigrating to the US) for far longer than Trump has been around. This isn't something new. And it has nothing to do with race. Despite what all the idiots say just so they can score political points for their agenda.

Can you really argue against having secured borders? If you can then you are for open borders which would be a far bigger detriment to the US than what we even have currently. We simply do not have the resources to have an open border.
Can you really argue against merit based immigration? IE: Making sure that the people we let in can take care of themselves instead of getting onto the government dole?

"red necK' well that just starts credibility...

Anti immigrant, base? No not anti immigrant..... anti ILLEGAL immigrant YES.

To say that we NEED immigrants to Pay for our aging baby boomer generations is a joke. Want to know what the REAL problem is? Our Current Society.

1) The initial 40-60's generation BUSTED their butts to create small business and turn them into large business. Take something simple as a small family run Restaurant.
2) The Next Generation baby boomers had 2 choices. WORK with the FAMILY Business or if the family business was successful they went to college and got highly educated. Huge amounts of Skilled workers.
3) CURRENT Generations (especially millennials) Their parents provided a comfortable life style for their children, Private Schools, A prosperous business where likely the CHILD does NOT have to go into the kitchen to help Wash dishes or bus tables.
4) When the Baby Boomers pass will the CHILDREN take over the family business? NO many of them either went to college to get specialized and are having a hard time finding these specialized jobs as its highly competitive.
5) Working for the Family business is BENEATH them.... they wont work at the registers, or wash dishes or bus tables, FOR a family business. That is why MANY family business are closing down NO perpetuation. Kids FIGHTING over the ASSETS or value of the business.

WHILE CAPABLE to do low skilled low wage jobs, ITS beneath them. So we as a society created the need to "import" those willing to do the Low skilled low wage jobs, While the society wants to be Jersey Shores, and the kardashians, without and valuable skills or mentality to work for it.

So do we NEED them, SURE because Americans have become lazy and elites that refuse to get their hands dirty. We are perpetuating this madness and there is NO one to blame but ourselves. Get of your phone, stop expecting $50,000 starting salary and go wash some dishes......... We are all able to do it...people just "choose" not to.....

CNN keeps getting dumber and dumber...

We don't need more unskilled workers, we already have too many unemployed here.
