Border agent killed, partner injured by illegal immigrants using rocks, report says | Fox News

Illegal immigrants reportedly assaulted two U.S. Border Patrol agents with rocks, killing one and seriously injuring another Sunday near the southern border with Mexico.
Details around the attack remained murky Monday, however, an FBI spokesperson said Rogelio Martinez and his partner were not shot and a National Border Patrol Council official told KTSM the assailants were "undocumented immigrants" who used likely used rocks to bash the agents.
"We strongly believe rocks were what was used," NBPC Vice President Art Del Cueto told KTSM.

Another shameful reminder of how dangerous the open border crowd is, and the criminals that come into our country illegally.

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding the attack this morning on two Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents:

“Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez, who was killed this morning in the line of duty. We are also praying for the full recovery of his partner, who was also attacked.

“This is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat that an unsecure border poses to the safety of our communities and those charged with defending them. We are grateful for the courage and sacrifice of our border agents who have dedicated their lives to keeping us safe. I remain fully committed to working with the Border Patrol to provide them with all the resources they need to safeguard our nation.”

A sad but good reminder of the power of ambushes however.

Can't find the video now, but there was one not long ago showing a border patrol car with the windows covered in heavy steel mesh to protect from rocks. The officer in the vid showed what kind of rocks were being thrown... brick-size rocks, enough to kill a man if he was hit in the head.

Shades of Palestine :(

An interesting remark. First, we haven't had an "open border" on the south since the fifties, so I don't know what you mean by "open border crowd". Second, enforcing customs and immigration laws is hazardous, so it's a trifle comforting to know that deaths of the BP officers is at a very low rate. Third, there will always be a certain amount of illegal border activity, and the NYC buffoon's "wall" won't affect that at all.

There are people, and plenty in the media it seems, that think it's a good idea.

And let's not forget the state that want to give voting rights to illegals.

The bottom line is that all immigrants need serious vetting.

there is a reason that stone throws back in the day were feared among troops.
the question is what are they using to launch those rocks with.

Hand thrown is bad enough. In Palestine quite a few were adept with the sling, which makes it deadly at considerable range...

Immigrants DO get "serious vetting" - almost all my wife's family took twenty-five years to immigrate here from when she first applied for them to come here, and on top of that, they have comprehensive background checks from their own country's equivalent of our FBI, medical checks including X-rays (to check for TB, mostly) and blood and urine samples to check for infectious diseases or drug use (and the medical checks are required to be done just before they travel), and they are questioned by our embassy there, questioned by the TSA upon arrival here, and until they receive their citizenship, any crime they may commit will likely result in deportation. Exactly how much more is required before it meets your personal standard of "serious vetting"?

That's why my niece and her family are immigrating to Canada - it's a heck of a lot easier to immigrate there than it is to America. That, and it's a more peaceful, less racist nation. In fact, that makes you wonder how it is that so many Americans are so fearful of immigrants when there's a nation right next door that is significantly more liberal than America, where the immigration policies are more lax than our own...and has significantly less violence. Wait - let me guess - it's all because of Hillary's emails....

I had to do a report for my ancient history class and i picked Greek Warefare tactics. They were quite adapt at war.

A greek stone thrower could launch a missile at about 60-75 m/s this would weigh about 25 grams. they have found some weighing about half a kilogram.
most where stones but some were lead and had writing on them.

sling bullet :24 gm swung one handed ; 30-36 joules(22-27 ft lbs)

they were commonly reported to break bones pierce skin and kill people from internal injuries.
the worst part was they were hard to see until they were hitting you.

They are surprisingly effective.

A buddy of mine and his daughter use them for target practice and small game. Seeing a 10yo girl launch a rock capable of busting a melon like a bomb is quite instructive.

While accuracy declines at distances above 20-50m, I am told the stones can be slung well over 100m by an expert and still be dangerous.

Aside, there is a knack to using the sling which I have, so far, been unable to develop. I suspect it may have to do with my shoulders being too stiff from age and accumulated damage. :)

Oh yeah. A local I know was reminiscing about his high-school days when the seniors would drive back and forth from the US to Mexico and back again on Saturday night while the BP agents relaxed, enjoying the fun. So, the border devolves into issues - illicit drugs and illegal immigration. Nothing seems to hamper the flow of illicit drugs - heck, the druggies have submarines to bring in their goods. Illegal immigration from the south has never been a problem, and was little-noticed until 11 September 2001 when a herd of "chicken littles" began seeing terrorists under their beds.

No, let's DO forget it because it ain't going anywhere. "Serious vetting" should concentrate on the serious areas - of which, the Americas ain't.

yes they were lethal up to 100m or so.
and yes you have to have a good throwing shoulder.

i don't i tore my rotatory cuff when i was younger and never got it fixed because i didn't realize what i did.
now i regret it because any time i go to throw anything with any kind of force my should kills me horribly.

As with Las Vegas, don't think we should politicize the tragedy...

You mean lets keep it quiet, and look the other way when our border agents are killed by the illegals flowing over the border.

My post was meant to be ironic, a parody of the statements from some gun rights advocates when a mass shooting occurs. Guns are a problem. Illegal immigration is a problem. We should no more look away from the omnipresence of guns in our society than the omnipresence of the undocumented.

I wonder if the people who turn out publicly to proclaim that sanctuary cities are both beneficial, and some supposed 'human right' of theirs will also demonstrate publicly in support of the BP agent who was killed by migrants? His name was Rogelio Martinez, and he like so many other BP agents who risk their lives are Latinos.
