What is the purpose of Immigration today?

I'd like to ask, without the political sniping, what is the purpose of immigration in today's world? Besides the obvious point of diversity. When we have so much poverty, unemployment, lack of affordable housing, massive meat and poultry farming to feed everyone, high cost Medicaid and other social services, I honestly don't see why we just allow so many to immigrate here. It doesn't matter where they are from.

When is this country 'full'?
 
We're there.

IMO, you should only get in here if there's a need for your services and the ability to have you properly vetted.

Spoken like a true elite. Maybe we should evaluate the usefulness of retired conservatives now and then boot their asses out of the country. You know to make room for someone useful coming in. That should solve the “crowding”’issue.

I thought I left the door wide open. We do now and will in the future need the services of immigrants. Just the ones who don't want to kill us.

Merit based immigration.
 
Immigrants work harder than US born folks, and don't mind doing demeaning jobs for less than 10 bucks an hour.

What's the point of an evaluation if you've already reached a conclusion in advance? You need cover for your bigotry?

Cheap labor.

That's what I find so fascinating on how the Republican Party uses the immigration issue. Businesses LOVE immigrants, both legal and illegal because they work cheap and help keep labor costs down. AND the GOP LOVES businesses.

So on 1 hand the GOP goes on and on about how bad immigration is for the country, but on the other hand they want to keep the borders wide open to keep their business donors and business friends happy.

And what's really fascinating is they get away with it with their voters. They tell their voters illegal immigration is all the Dems fault because the Dems want illegals to vote Dem, and the GOP voters believe that. All the while the GOP does nothing to close the borders either.

Observation, not conclusion. Who knows maybe some cons will prove useful while others won't. Or is this just more of the entitlement that cons feel they deserve?
 
The purpose of immigration is to supply low wage workers and to shift the demographics to favor demorats - look it up. ;)

Have you ever heard of training? Just because someone doesn't have the skills when they come in, doesn't mean they can't learn them here when they come in. If we were to judge the usefulness of some punk con when they are kids I doubt many would still be here.

Please point to where I mentioned "execution". Otherwise just admit your comments are dishonest at this point. I'm just throwing your "entitlement mentality" back in your face. You demand immigrants be "useful" from the start but don't hold the same responsibility to conservatives.

You seem to have some kind of comprehension problem. You don't understand the meaning of equivalent? I've pointed out your obvious error. Accept it, or wallow in it. Doesn't matter to me.

Companies can train from within. Most of the visa hires are already, 'trained'

Well, that's the real question, isn't it?

And there are as many answers as there are people......but, if you look above, you can see that it does not take long before people start turning it into a "lets bash this political party" sporting event.

Immigration does have its uses.....fill work positions, add "diversity" ( if you believe that's a valid need in immigration) bring in new STEM talent, etc.....the answer will depend on the person.

Personally, I think we need to place all new immigration on a strict hiatus until we have cleaned out our current immigration processing backlog, and instituted changes to our visa and immigration system as a whole.

And I don't mean those "muslim countries".....I mean everyone.....so everyone can sit back down with their "Islamophobe" signs.

The USCIS is currently dealing with several years backlog.....this needs to be cleared out, and USCIS needs to be staffed better, and we need to reduce annual immigration to more manageable levels before we continue to add to the backlog.

Current immigration system need to be rebuilt.

Again, you ignore the potential of someone and instead place value ONLY on how they are trained at the moment. Again, showing your Elitist mentality.

Having a complete halt on immigration would hugely damage the US economy as it would basically halt inward investment overnight. Why would international companies set up offices in the US when they couldn't bring anyone in to oversee the operations?

Well, poor fella. Here, let me 'splain it to you. When you announce that you're going to conduct an evaluation (to determine worthiness for citizenship) and announce that the object of your "evaluation" will summarily be kicked out of the country, you've announced that the "evaluation" is meaningless because you've already determined the object's fate. And that, poor soul, is analogous to "We don't need no stinking trial. String 'em up." I'm just glad you don't get to pull any important levers.
