Coming over here, saving our people from drowning without a by-your-leave, and nobody even gave him a towel, never mind a lift home!

Well, you posted this in the Immigration sub-Forum rather than the International-Europe-UK sub-Forum, so correct me if I am wrong but I am guessing your not-so-subtle assertion is that people everywhere hate other people simply because they are foreign.

I can't speak for citizens of the U.K., where you are from, nor do I claim to speak for all Americans.

However, when it comes to Immigration issues in the USA, while I recognize there are some people who hate others simply because they weren't born here, IMO that is not the norm.

I believe the issue with immigration is solely with those who are either coming here illegally, or demanding mass entrance as migrants. That legal immigrants are readily accepted by all but a small segment of our population.

I mention my own apprehension about the differences here:

There has been a lot of debate surrounding how America should handle the issues of Latin American immigrants and Moslem refugees.

...and:

...I think it is disingenuous to re-package "illegal immigrants" with a user-friendly term like "undocumented immigrants," and then imply they equate to legal immigrants as all somehow suffering from "an attempt to stir up anti-immigrant sentiment." I do not see any efforts whatsoever to raise "anti-immigrant sentiments" against those who enter legally.

I, and most people I know have no problem with differentiating between various types of people seeking permanent residence. The mere fact that they are "foreign" is not the critical factor.

After all, as even those here in the USA on your side of the argument agree, we are a nation born of immigrants. :coffeepap:

To be honest, I don't think the witnesses would have been any more helpful whether the rescuer was native or not.
