I bet they were illegal...

I've worked with several people who were here legally, but didn't speak much if any English... only their kids did. It's not so cut and dry.

So very true. I work with a lady who's parents (legal immigrants) speak no English and her husband (legal immigrant too) speaks very little English.

Also....go into any Asian community and there is a good chance the parents and other elders speak no English.

A person's immigration status can't be defined by the ability or inability to speak English.

I don't even know why I titled the thread as I did. It did go through my mind... I think because they took almost EVERYTHING. Things most of us would see as worthless, they had a way to make money off of it or would use it themselves. It was inspiring really. The saying "One person's junk is another's treasure" proved itself yesterday in spades.

i know no one took what I said as somehow demeaning to this family. But I can't help respecting and admiring each and every one of them.

I think our country suffers by allowing a shadow economy, and shadow residents to exists.
We need to find a way to allow the decent people who may have gotten here illegally but are paying taxes and raising their
families to be brought out of the shadows. We also need to identify and remove those who are here who are dangerous criminals.
While the details would have to be worked out, it might be possible to expand NAFTA, to allow
work permits from Mexico and Canada, to citizens of those countries in good standing (I.E. not criminals).
Of course US citizens in good standing could work in Canada and Mexico as well.

I have several acquaintances who I am reasonably certain are here on expired visas from SE Asia and South America. All good people (to the best of my knowledge) and work hard. I have no problem with them being here. With all the victimless crimes I have commited in my life I would be a hypocrite if I condemned them.

I certainly don't fault ICE for doing their jobs, but as a tax payer I would prefer they prioritize catching illegals who exhibit predatory behavior.

ICE is targeting criminals. All the deportations that are happening right now involve criminals, some of them with very serious charges. But that won't stop liberals from demanding that not only should illegal immigrants be allowed to live here indefinitely, they should be allowed to commit as many other crimes as they want without consequences.

On Wednesday evening, seven people were arrested outside the Phoenix ICE office when protesters attempted to block an agency van from taking Garcia de Rayos away.
Liberals literally protesting and demanding that illegal immigrants be allowed to commit crimes and murders without getting deported. I hope that this becomes a foundational issue for the DNC. "identity fraud is a-ok" sounds like a real winning message.

My cousin came over today to help me rid my garage and shed of a hoarder's presence. My DP blog explains more, but I'm thinking many of you understand.

We worked hard because garbage day is tomorrow. So many useful things this single lady will never use taking up room and causing clutter (a kind adjective) that I couldn't abide.

So we had piles for her son who'd just bought a home, one for garbage, one for Goodwill, and one for "let's put it out front with the rest of the garbage and see if anyone picks it up."

about two two hours in, we had a considerable pile at the street and a van pulled up giving us a high sign like, "Is it okay to poke thru?" Of COURSE! They took everything. Everything! Made three trips. And when they were done, only their teenage daughter spoke English, they carried every scrap of garbage tomthe curb and stacked it carefully for pickup.

I was sooo GRATEFUL! I have my house back!

Im betting they were illegal. Mom and dad spoke no English. Their daughter was Americanized...guessing born here.

aimmogration isn't cut and dried. Right? What's YOUR answer?

Yes, I agree it isn't cut and dry and for some of us it's a very conflicting situation. Imagine for a minute you are their daughter and are you legal and that your parents are in fact illegally here. Can you imagine how that can be conflicting? Think of the saying that some use in this order - God, family, country. Family before country so while you know it's wrong you are very loyal to your family and want to protect them even if they are breaking the law.
