Populism on the March
Why the West Is in Trouble
By Fareed Zakaria
The weaselly way he says this pisses me off, if the blowback gets too strong he will simply deny what he clearly was trying to say around the bush....a language trick the elite often use, but anyways:
So he not only says that we should let everyone come who wants to come with maybe some temporary limiters if absolutely required to cool the temperatures of the Deplorables but on top of that we are expected to train them to take jobs, of which there are not enough good ones to go around already.
Why would we do that? (His answer: To get our rainbow)
I wish I was astounded that in all these words (Its a long piece) this top shelf public intellectual seems to have no clue that societies need to have some shared experience and purpose to make it through. This guy is ready to let all that go for the rainbows that he loves and expects all humans born hereafter will also love. Also the idea that we could end up with a generation of poorly parented youth unprepared for life who then get to watch foreigners come in sucking up first job training then then jobs(because the young we raised cant compete, they are too broken).....anyways that this generation would get pissed and would decide to burn everything down in their rage for a life taken from them by people who never had to even be here seems to never enter his mind. This blind faith of Fareed Zakaria that the universe wants the rainbow and we just need to figure out the management it is going to take to get there is almost as breathtaking as is his ignorance on how collections of people work.
And if mismanaged badly enough, dont.
I am guessing that this genius (TRUMP TERM) never saw that coming.
Yes Sir Fareed...the WEST is in trouble, and it is idiots like you at the top that got us here.
That and corruption.

https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/united-states/2016-10-17/populism-marchImmigration is the final frontier of globalization. It is the most intrusive and disruptive because as a result of it, people are dealing not with objects or abstractions; instead, they come face-to-face with other human beings, ones who look, sound, and feel different. And this can give rise to fear, racism, and xenophobia. But not all the reaction is noxious. It must be recognized that the pace of change can move too fast for society to digest. The ideas of disruption and creative destruction have been celebrated so much that it is easy to forget that they look very different to the people being disrupted.
Western societies will have to focus directly on the dangers of too rapid cultural change. That might involve some limits on the rate of immigration and on the kinds of immigrants who are permitted to enter. It should involve much greater efforts and resources devoted to integration and assimilation, as well as better safety nets. Most Western countries need much stronger retraining programs for displaced workers, ones more on the scale of the GI Bill: easily available to all, with government, the private sector, and educational institutions all participating. More effort also needs to be devoted to highlighting the realities of immigration, so that the public is dealing with facts and not phobias. But in the end, there is no substitute for enlightened leadership, the kind that, instead of pandering to people’s worst instincts, appeals to their better angels.
Eventually, we will cross this frontier as well. The most significant divide on the issue of immigration is generational. Young people are the least anxious or fear*ful of foreigners of any group in society. They understand that they are enriched—economically, socially, culturally—by living in diverse, dynamic countries. They take for granted that they should live in an open and connected world, and that is the future they seek. The challenge for the West is to make sure the road to that future is not so rocky that it causes catastrophe along the way

Seeing as how America has a TRUMP I guess we know where we stand in the quality of the management of the place. Those countries that have managed immigration and integration better, in contrast, with leadership that is engaged, confident, and practical, have not seen a rise in populist anger.
I am guessing that this genius (TRUMP TERM) never saw that coming.
