1. WWI saw Czarist Russia change into Soviet Russia. Germany sneaked Lenin into Czarist Russia, destabilizing Russia and giving it to the Soviets.

2. WWI saw the rise of the Nazis in Germany. After Germany's defeat in WWI, Germany was punished. Germany lost territory and was forced to pay crushing reparations.

3. WWI saw a powerful Japan emerge. Japan seized a lot of territory from Germany at this time.

4. WWI saw the defeat of the Ottoman's which led to France and Britain dividing up the Middle East. Iraq and Syria were created for example. No attention was paid to existing groups living on the land, the colonialists drew borders across the land indiscriminately.

5. WWI saw Britain start to allow Zionist European Jews to colonize Palestine.

Not to mention all the people who died from Spanish Flu back then.

Do you think this is true?

Wars do tend to have nasty aftershocks.

Maybe it wasn't the war itself so much as how the world was carved up after the war. Particularly the Middle East, which was one of the dumbest decisions in human history. No deference was given to the existing peoples and cultures when considering the borders.

WWI was the final defeat of Europe's reactionary powers by the maniacal forces of liberalism. It is no surprise that it permanently screwed up the world.

That's what happens when people who think they know everything make important decisions.

just a heads up, be careful not to discuss Israel/Palestine issues outside of the section of the board for those discussions.

Yeah, what territory was seized by Japan from Germany ?

WWI was the end of kings. Germany got rid of their Kaiser, the Russians got rid of their Czar, and bunch more royalty was kicked out.

I agree with your list in broad scope except for number 3.

Japan was on a track to emerge as a regional military and economic power from the 1850's onwards and its power was well established by the turn of the 20th Century. What really made Japan seem so strong was the vacuum of power in China and later Russia after the Russo-Japanese War. It is true that WWI made these vacuums stronger, but the process was well underway by the start of the Great War.

Cheers, be well and a very interesting topic.
Evilroddy.

Japan took control of Korea in 1910, so that was before WWI by 4 years?

And somewhere around that time, Japan beat Russia in a way.

As I understand it, Japan's victory over Russia made Russia look weak, which led to the Czar's defeat in part.
