Phase One of the Alamo Plan on Track for Completion by Fall 2020

With all due respect, will the changing population demographic in Texas have an interest in celebrating the Alamo?

I assumed that future Texans would call for it to be razed and forgotten.

And for cities named for people like Stephen Austin to be renamed.

I understand that the changes are a-coming so fast that the Dem presidential candidate may win Texas in 2020.

Serioiusly? You don't know that there were 15 Tejanos at the Alamo? The only reason Juan Seguín and 6 others survived the Alamo to fight at San Jacinto is because they were ordered to leave and seek reinforcements.

The Texas Revolution wasn't about Whites vs. Mexicans. It was about Texicans seeking restoration of the 1824 Mexican Constitution which the dictator Santa Anna and interim president José Justo Corro had negated. It's why the most famous Alamo flag (of three there at the time) has 1824 on it:

There are several good books on the Texas Revolution, many of which are historically accurate and not the Rah-Rah stuff of John Wayne movies or Disney shows.

For those interested, the Alamo compound in 1836 covered about 2 acres and has now been reduced to a fraction of it's original size. The north wall where Travis was shot is now underneath the USPS/courhouse and the Gibs building. The west wall is underneath buildings across Alamo street. The short barracks where Bowie died, possibly before the battle on March 6th, is in the middle of that street.

An Alamo battle map. The main attack came over the north wall and swept south. Crockett and his Tennessee volunteers were manning palisade, a wooden construction between the Chapel and the short barracks because the Alamo walls were unfinished.

1. Thanks for the informative comments.

2. Yes, my knowledge of the Alamo is limited to Hollywood movies.

3. Sadly, the forces that demanded the removal of Confederate generals' statues will, I am confident, eventually demand the demolition of the Alamo. That is simply the way our nation is trending.

Have a nice weekend.

1) My pleasure.

2) The best "Hollywood" movie about the Alamo is 2004 one with Billy Bob Thornton. It's the most true to history.

3) Let's hope that's just a phase in our history and that the majority of "We, the People" regain our senses.

Here's a letter I wrote my nephew about a small aspect of the Alamo story: Small Alamo mystery - Google Docs

The Alamo was not part of the Confederacy.

The Confederacy committed treason and murdered hundreds of thousands of people to explicitly protect slavery.

There were plenty of slavers amongst the Texans, but many of the leaders, most notably Sam Houston, were loyal Americans.

There is no equivalence.
