I posted this in political cartoons, but I dont think they’ll get it there...

I returned from Normandy last month, and I just saw this ad.

Seems like someone is reaching for the historically illiterate vote.

So you're saying you don't support Rommel because of past performance?

Is the man's last name "Rommel?"

Is he running for State Representative?

Is a plank of his platform to protect Florida's beaches?

Then aside from his last name being similar to a WWII General, why would he be appealing to the "historically illiterate" of his prospective District?

If you thought this was just "funny," then perhaps best to leave it in the Humor Section and let people "get it."

The Normandy thing would be my first reaction as well.

You can leave the thread without commenting, you know.

I'm not sure the general population would automatically connect Rommel with beaches. Not everyone reads up on WWII.

Rommel was absent on the two biggest days in his career - 2nd battle of El Alamein and 6th June 1944.

You're right, of course, but if he'd posted it there I never would have seen it. It's hilarious. Of course, the last Rommel who tried to protect a beach was recalled.:doh

In 1944, Rommel was implicated in the July 20 plot to assassinate Hitler, the man who wanted to make Germany great again. Bob Rommel should work harder to teach history to the voters.

Rommel should learn some history and not put out laughable campaign ads.

Seems like if your name was Rommel you would at least know something about your namesake, dontcha think?

Unless he's spreading a subliminal message that he's involved in the resistance to bring down Trump.

Is Bob Rommel any relation to Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel, genannt Wüstenfuchs?
