Confederate Statues Were Built To Further A 'White Supremacist Future'

Well, people like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson weren't traitors to the United States, so I don't see why we'd get rid of them.

But they were traitors to their country.

The difference is that George, Ben, John, and Tom won their war. If Lincoln and Grant would have lost the war, and they nearly did,we would today be tearing down their statues.

What they all had in common is that they fought for a cause they believed in. Somehow I don't see that as being traitors.

Another mature and enlightening post from the great minds of the left.

Why should an extinct foreign nation that went to war with the US get a bunch of statues as participation trophies for losing? Would you like some Ho Chi Minh and Saddam Hussein statues erected as well?

You live in England. WTF do you care?

Come on, you are better than that.

If we use your logic, then you should never comment on anything going on in other countries.

They are already there, dude. Some have been there for 100 years. Not sure there is any real groundswell to add more, but there isn't much support for the idiocy on the left that calls for them all to be removed.

So you think they should stand there until the end of time? When the last star in the universe dies out, the darkness will fall on our giant statue of Robert E. Lee?

Over time society's heroes and values change, and with that so does its statues and murals. Most Americans don't value Confederate generals anymore and their cause was an affront to the rights and dignity of black Americans. Out with the old, in with the new, we can find better people to idolize.

Fair enough. But I am not sure what sort of beef a foreigner would have with statues in some American states. They still have a monarchy for Petes sake. lol.

Rather than tear them down, why not put others up? Why not add to the historical content rather than wipe it out? If a statue of General Lee offends you, erect one next to it of General Grant. Oddly enough North and South were able to reconcile their differences after a bloody civil war. Modern liberals are too intolerant for that.

You read the news about what is going on all over the world, you are free to have an opinion. I'm sure you posted about Brexit here, don't be a hypocrite.

Let's just for a second consider a hypothetical. If there was a statue of Hitler at your local courthouse, would you think it absolutely must stay there indefinitely because he was part of our history and someone decided to put it there? Role models change. We as Americans don't value what the confederacy fought for. The statues can be moved to private land and people can take as much pride in it as they want. There's no reason to have statues of traitors who fought against America to enslave their fellow Americans on public land. Black people are Americans too and their government should not be idolizing the people that would risk their lives to keep them in chains.

Jesus. He wasn't part of our nations history. I honestly wouldnt mind a statue of Benedict Arnold standing in the town in which he lived. It would be a symbol of his historical significance in American history.

You mean people like Washington and Jefferson? Are they next? Of course they are. Al Sharpton was calling for the defunding of the Jefferson Memorial. He no fringe left wing kook. He is a mainstream leftwing kook. Liberals have lost their minds.

Sure, Hitler was part of our history, was a foreigner and fought against the US, just like the traitorous confederates. Can you give a compelling reason why they absolutely must stay on public land until armageddon? Do you think a government should be representative of all their constituents or just the whites?

That's just how sharing your privilege feels to some of you people.

I don't really care how long they stay there. I am not an uptight, busybody leftist who feels he has to stick his nose into everyone elses business. I see them as historical monuments and their existence on public land is up to the municipalities on which the stand. If you don't like the one in your town, petition to have it removed. If you don't like the one in my town, too bad. Most people in middle America don't care what sanctimonious leftists think about how they should live.

And many of those municipalities have decided to remove them. All good then right? You may not think Hitler is part of the history of this country, but I do, just as you think the confederate generals are a part of ours. Would you be opposed to a Hitler statue being on government property? The Jews shouldn't be offended by it because it's just history right?

It would hurt the feelings of the American nazis if we removed it, right?

There was a poll shown here recently that a good majority would prefer the monuments to remain and a small minority that wants them removed. One would think that you loud minority should take the reasonable approach and stop being nasty troublemaking pricks?
But that is not the real tragedy of defacing monuments, altering our visible heritage or burning books.

I say we 'erect' another Jefferson statue of him raping Sally Hemings.

Nope. There's no compelling reason to keep statues of traitors who fought against the US and the dignity of black people on public land until the end of time. If they want to move the statues to private land they can do that, but there's no reason to keep it on public land.

That is such a stupid analogy that it isn't worth responding to. Put a little effort into your posts.

It is truly impossible to have a rational conversation with some of you liberals.

Why on earth do we commemorate men who fought against the United States, killed our citizens and disgraced our Constitution?

Yet you did respond to it. You can't give a single compelling reason why statues of people who fought against the rights of our fellow countrymen must be idolized on public land until the end of time.

Because it is a part of our history as a nation. But it is funny how things like this never bothered you guys until your liberal masters told you to be upset by it. Why not use your own brain rather than fall in line behind every childish, nihilistic whim of your masters. Theyre statues, most of whom you have never laid eyes upon and never will. To be offended by things like that is just immaturity.
