Anti-depression and psych drug ads are incessantly on television. I have noticed what without exception, who is portrayed as needing them is always a woman. They even now market anti-depression drugs to take in addition to the anti-depression drug a woman is already taking.

Why are all anti-depression and psych drugs always market only towards women in advertising?

It's something that was most likely thought up by the marketing firms to begin with. Though some forms of stress and ant depression medications/methods, do have a strong history of being targeted towards women. Because of some outlying bias, or because it always turned out to be far more profitable.

It's probably not new. Here in the UK directly advertising drugs to the public was banned, though I'm seeing endless Viagra ads on cable nowadays. The Rolling Stones sang about "Mothers Little Helper" in 1966! (Valium/Diazepam)

I just had a look. Seems the USA leads the world in marketing direct to consumers! (but most Americans don't like it.

Pharma marketing: UK vs US - Pharmafield
