All 50 states are in some stage of reopening. So far, only two of them meet the guidelines for reopening, New Mexico and Wisconsin. Does this mean that the other 48 are careening down hill out of control with a big crash at the end? The most probable answer would be, to varying degrees, yes. This is not a political statement. This is medicine and common sense, so one hopes that the usual trolls and flamers will stay away but that is unlikely. So, what do you think?

Far too late. We close down too long and put 35 million people out of work. That's insane. It's a political game to try to win the Presidential election, collusion failed, Mueller failed, FISA failed, impeachment failed, now we have Covid shutdown. Democrat dirty politics.

We will not know for many months whether this was overblown and we destroyed the livelihoods of tens of millions of fellow Americans out of extreme over-cautiousness, or if we made the most horrible missteps since the Spanish Influenza Pandemic of 1918 by returning to normal. Hopefully it will be the former.

Are you sure?

Are you sure, we're not careening down a hill?

If so, the Repubnicants are the ones who started playing dirty politics.

I don't see how it would be in any Governor's best political interests to be closed down and people out of work.

Generally speaking, I think my state has handled the epidemic fairly well. There were a few glitches in testing but hopefully that's been remedied.

Unfortunately, there won't be any live summer music festivals or concerts this year...and that's already hurting our local economy. Live streaming just isn't the same.

People have no protection against Covid-19 and it is highly contagious. It is also lethal, especially for certain vulnerable sub-populations such as our grandparents and those with existing medical conditions such as heart disease. The best protection is to avoid other people who are carriers of the virus, some even asymptomatic. Exercising caution makes sense and relaxing lockdown will have a price. For those who lose loved ones it is too high a price while others will be lucky.

Forget politics and think pandemic, which has nothing to do with politics, and tell us what you think will happen. Can you do that?

Which is off topic, as is your republican reference. What do think the future holds for the other 48?

My state, Arizona, not so much. Reopening while numbers are still going up seems foolhardy to me, and it will cause otherwise avoidable deaths. Being an elder with a heart condition plus afib, I am not to optimistic about my immediate future.

Much of it depends upon the area and the ability of the virus to come INTO that area from outside, and the capacity of the local healthcare facilities.
If the area has robust healthcare with enough personnel and equipment, and people follow recommendations for social distancing and masks, and people follow proper sanitary procedure, and the clinical load on the area isn't disastrously high and is receding, then yes that area can cautiously try some level of reopening while carefully monitoring the caseload in the ensuing weeks.

Not every area has similar demographics, economics or healthcare infrastructure so it HAS to be on an individual town, city, county and state by state basis, and that is also because there is not currently workable uniform federal response for assistance.
And we know who to thank for that, of course.

It is beyond pathetic to watch hacks try to put blame on Democrats for a response that was entirely run and controlled by the Trump Administration.

I feel for you because we're kind of in the same boat. Our plan is to just keep washing our hands, social distance and wear a mask to the store...for at least the next two years.

The economy won't come back until the people do. I read somewhere that after the 1918 Spanish Flu...it took two years for some people feel safe before returning to normal. But it was never normal again for those who lost their lives or their loved ones.

Numbers are not going to go down until we have a vaccine. The virus is not that contagious nor that deadly. Think more like the flu. So many causes of death and we don't shut down for those.
Auto accidents, still driving. Swimming pool accidents, still allowing pools to be built, the Flu every year, Smoking and we are selling cigerettes, cancer, heart disease, the list is long and deadly but we keep moving forward, protect ourselves as best we can and live our lives. There are countries that haven't shut down and their numbers are no worse than ours. Our number of cases per population number is about the same as other countries, its proving to be about the same as influenza.
The only conclusion that makes sense is fear tactics and an attempt by democrats to heap blame on Trump and gain an edge in the upcoming election. Putting 35 million out of work will come back to haunt the democrats.
Need to go back to normal and treat the ones who become ill.

Some areas, no, other areas, Hell yes. As you said it is just the situation, unfortunately some think if they ignore the virus it will magically go away, mother nature has a way of proving we sometimes over inflate our place in the universe.
