The Walmart near me is out of liquid soap, sanitizer, windex / lysol, napkins, paper towels and toilet paper. A nearby cheap grocery store had paper towels and napkins, but no toilet paper. The Dollar Store next to it had hardly any people in there, and they had plenty of toilet paper, a saving grace indeed.

Given that Italy's kill magnitude has been just 15% of a standard flu season so far, I think people are overreacting - I don't see supply disruption based on even the worst kill rate.

If I ran a sanitizer company, I would take an extra 10% markup to cover labor, and my peeps would be working 24/7 until demand fell back in line. I hope we don’t by our sanitizer in tanks made and filled in China.

I have noticed a shortage of anything which is somewhat surprising since whenever snow is in the forecast people around here lose their **** and stock up like their nuclear fallout shelter will be permanently occupied for the remainder of their lives.

The stores are normal, no empty shelves. But something odd did happen in the parking lot. A disheveled homeless man was holding aloft a picture of Midway Island and demanding of passers-by, "show me the global warming! Show it to me!!" So, that was weird.

In my local walmart the toilet paper is all gone and I saw three separate idiots wearing dust masks.

Does anyone understand the connection between Coronavirus and toilet paper?

Local grocery was far busier than normal. TP was gone and so was most of the water. It sure looked like people were fixin' to hunker down.

That was my experience too, I just went outside of the walmart and found everything I needed almost immediately.

I've read that people are panic-shopping because this gives them a sense of control and reassures them that they're doing something.

I don't think they're idiots; I think they're afraid.

No TP in any of the Walmarts or Targets or major grocery stores. No hand sanitizer, no hand soap, no Clorox wipes or generics, no rubbing alcohol, and no hydrogen peroxide.

Previously posted, may be what some people will have to deal with:

In states like NY, Ohio, WA...they are telling people thru April.

Social distancing and self-quarantine if possible. Kids are all home in these areas. So are parents. All day long. That's more usage than normal to begin with since people arent normally home all day.
... I was describing why families might want to have more than usual on hand because they were unable or asked not to go out and buy it.

...My point still stands. Many families have been asked to...and may be legally forced to...remain home. And if they do, they will use more TP and be unable to go get more.

Maybe because if they get the virus, they won't be able to go to the store to get toilet paper, and we all NEED toilet paper.
