we aren't sure what coronavirus is, yet.

we THINK we know a few things about it... its a bit more contagious than the flu, its a bit less deadly than the flu.

note also though that we aren't SURE the chinese aren't flubbing THEIR numbers.

what it may be for the future though, is a SECOND flu type virus that is persistent. that alone, is not exactly great.

Trump ally Rush Limbaugh has already tried to politicize the virus. It will be very interesting what Trump says in his evening announcement. Reports say he is really angry about the 2000 point slide in the stock market as some will blame his economic policies.

You got the bolded wrong. From your link:

Overall, per the CDC, the death rate of those who have been infected with the flu this flu season is 0.05%. According to the research conducted by the Chinese CDC, the case-fatality rate of novel coronavirus in China is 2.3%.

that makes this virus even worse. The problem with the past viruses we have seen out of this is that it has killed people to fast and burned itself out.
if this one just infects people and doesn't kill them it means that it still lives. it could mutate and become worse.

hmmm interesting.. ok well maybe that is the article then as I was basically referencing the end conclusion here from that article:
"That's not really an easy question to answer, says Dr. Brown. "It depends on what you mean by worse,” he says. “More easily spread? Then it appears to be coronavirus. Causes more cases of serious illness. Then it’s flu.”

ALSO i heard Wuhan was the only place in china with a level 4 microbiology lab? if that is true,... now not saying I can confirm this , BUT IF that is true.... its pretty damn big that in the one place they had that they couldn't contain the damn thing.

no too mention the question it raises about the possibility of being an engineered virus, not naturally made.

Thank you for confirming Trumps reaction.

Rush may be something of a safari bush beater for Trump. We will soon find out if he takes a sober long term view or if becomes just another short term concern.

where do you think John Hopkins is getting their chinese numbers? We may not be able to trust their numbers.

?? My guess China, The World Health Organization, CDC?
But China would have to give the initial numbers. Don't see any other way that would work.

Maybe this will help you understand?

Ted Lieu tried to blame Trump for cuts to the Centers for Disease Control that have not taken place and would not have affected coronavirus response anyway:

The Dow dropped significantly this morning because of the continuing spread of the coronavirus.

The @realDonaldTrump budget proposes cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Retweet if you think cutting @CDCgov is really dumb.

Nancy Pelosi pushed the same theme — what we really need to worry about it unrelated proposed budget cuts to CDC:

Pelosi on coronavirus: I have confidence in Dr. Fauci at the National Institutes of Health, who has even further confidence in what we’re doing. I do have concern that the President’s budget cut nineteen percent of the Center for Disease Control…We’ll fight that cut.

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) February 24, 2020

Chuck Schumer blamed Trump for not having enough of a plan:

This is typical of President Trump's senseless budget cuts.

President Trump wants to slash funding for the CDC. His new budget proposes a 16 percent cut at the agency.

But the Coronavirus crisis continues to spread across the globe!

Joe Scarborough mocked claims that coronavirus was being weaponized politically, by weaponizing it against Trump:

Bette Midler flat out blamed Trump:

#Trump mismanaged the Coronavirus! What happened to the CDC? Another one of his loyalist hacks in charge?? Who are the "American officials" who let the untested sick people off the boat and then put them on a plane behind a sheet? I guess they don't believe in science either.

— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) February 23, 2020

And this MSNBC legal contributor blamed Trump’s spending on the wall — as if not spending money on the wall would have prevented a virus that spread in China:

But Trump will spend $10 billion on a border wall that doesn’t work… https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/22/emergency-coronavirus-funding-116761

Better follow the CDS, and certainly not Trump or Kudlow.

Covid-19 is far more deadly than the flu if one gets infected. For those over 70 the mortality rate is 8%; over 80 almost 16%.

The containment is, from what I read, a function of how it's spread and how easily it's spread. The problem is that a person can carry the virus with no symptoms for days, and it's spread through contact. So by the time they knew about it, infected persons had already spread out in various parts of the city, infected others, who spread throughout the country, then the world.

And the scientists tell us something bioengineered leaves clues and this has none of those clues. I can't verify that, but the simplest answer is that it's not weaponized and seems like the overwhelmingly likely answer.

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown
William Shakespeare HENRY IV

He wanted it - he got it.

Trump claimed on Monday that the coronavirus was "very much under control in the USA." A day later, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the virus' spread to the US was inevitable. He said the stock market is "starting to look very good" even as the Dow was nosediving amid coronavirus anxiety.

And the president has been blaming the media for this predicament, reverting to the same tactics that he has employed ever since taking office.

On Wednesday, in a widely-criticized tweet, he claimed that CNN and MSNBC "are doing everything possible to make the Caronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible."

He misspelled coronavirus and the typo is still visible on his Twitter profile more than eight hours later.

But misspelling the name of the virus is the least of the government's problems. President Trump has systematically undermined trust in the media and other institutions that play important roles in public health emergencies. He has explicitly said not to trust sources that he doesn't personally approve.

Is the Coronavirus Worse Than the Flu? - Coronavirus vs. Flu | Health.com

From what I've read, the coronavirus is no more dangerous than the regular flu but the problem with coronavirus is that it's highly infectious. If one person has the regular flu, it's virulent enough to be transmitted to one person, but the coronavirus is so contagious that one person can possibly infect multiple people. It's not only respirator droplets suspended in the air or direct contact that passes this virus from one to the next, this virus can remain active on inanimate objects. Someone can touch a surface like the railing on a elevator, or the buttons on a slot machine then touch their face or mouth and become infected. It is deadly, but not too deadly. It makes people sick, but not in predictable, uniquely identifiable ways. Many people can be infected with the virus and not even feel sick or if they do feel sick it may just be mild symptoms. This is how it's spreading so rapidly, people don't even know they're carrying it. Coronavirus has an incubation period of up to two weeks.

A virus such as coronavirus can get dangerous for national security. There have been reported outbreak of cases of coronavirus at our US military base in S. Korea. Once it becomes pandemic and the US begins to see more cases in the US, it will also begin to infect those people that are on the front lines of our defenses such as police, firefighters, air traffic controllers, TSA agents at the airports, hospital personnel, etc.

This animal, the Pangolin, may be where this virus originated in a Wuhan, China seafood market. The sale of this animal for food was banned in China so if it was being marketed, it was being done so illegally.

But ... but ... but ... the stock market; not the Health of Americans and really, the Planet.

This is what reichists voted for, a science-denying, delusional madman whose only ability is as a Carnival Barker to his Cult.

It’s a conspiracy by China to release a bio agent. Cancelling the pandemic part of the admin. Taking $$$ from other emergency funds. A completely hollow admin in every cabinet position.

Italy with no Ash Wednesday. Potential cancelling/delay of Summer Olympics in Japan; every sporting event from top to bottom; I’m carrying hand sanitizer everywhere I go.

Hogwash...... The democrats have used this as way to attack the president. Please open your eyes to what is happening.

No one is going to cry about that. Back in 2014 Trump and the right wing puke funnel relentlessly attacked Obama over fake Ebola fears that was in fact handled competently. What comes around goes around, and Trump can take the same crap he threw out in 2014 and shove it right back up his fat ass for all I care.

What we can all see with our own eyes is no one in the administration has any clue what's going on. We can trust the experts at CDC, but as they're telling us one thing, Larry Kudlow, perma stock market bull, is telling a completely different story unconnected to the facts about the virus. It's a mystery why his economic advisor is commenting at all on a health/disease matter. So like always, no one will pay any attention to what Trump or his minions say on this because they're idiots and ignoramuses, or both.

Trump is speaking about it in under an hour. I expect at least a "we're not sure how it came to be" and closing with "faith...". It could be full-blown CT and wrath of God.

There is zero chance Trump begins, "Let me begin by saying this virus was not engineered." He's gonna give that CT a nod.
