FDA green-lights promising new pancreatic cancer drug treatment

FDA green-lights promising new pancreatic cancer drug treatment | TheHill

A study found a drug used to treat ovarian cancer doubled the lifespans of pancreatic cancer patients.

Lynparza has been cleared as a treatment for pancreatic cancer following the recommendation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee.

Results from a recent study showed Lynparza (olaparib) nearly doubled the time patients with pancreatic cancer lived without disease progression or death.

This is very welcome news.cancer is a 'silent killer': by the time it can be detected it has spread throughout your body & your chances of survival are slim. The game show host Alex Trebek (age 79) is a current example of someone trying to survive so-called Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

'Pancreatic cancer is the 12th most commonly occurring cancer and seventh leading cause of cancer death globally.' There are no effective tests to detect this cancer before it has spread.

The really good news: 100% of Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans cover this drug. It's type is known as a small molecule rather than an expensive biologic. Without insurance, this drug costs $14,000/month.
