LAPD officer contracts typhoid fever

Nobody warned me the Los Angeles Central division police station had unsafe and unsanitary conditions and put their officers into other unsanitary situations.

Union: LA officer gets typhoid fever, 5 others show symptoms

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles police detective has been diagnosed with typhoid fever, a rare illness typically spread through contaminated food or water, and at least five other officers who work in the same station are showing symptoms, union officials said Thursday.

The six officers work in the Central Division station, where a state investigation into unsafe and unsanitary working conditions led to penalties and more than $5,000 in fines earlier this month, documents show.

The division polices downtown Los Angeles, including the notorious Skid Row area where hundreds of homeless people camp on the streets. The police union says homeless encampments must be cleaned up following the recent diagnosis and other cases where officers contracted hepatitis A and staph infections.

“The last thing I need is my members coming to work worried about contracting an infectious disease and bringing it home to their families,” Los Angeles Police Protective League treasurer Robert Harris said.

The union also demanded better protective equipment for officers and called for the station to be regularly sanitized.

The Police Department said exposed areas of the Central Division were being disinfected and officials were reviewing the state’s “concerning” report that found health violations at the station.

The building lacked an effective extermination program and had “rats/rodents, fleas, roaches, flies, gnats, mosquitoes and grasshoppers,” according to the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s May 14 report.

Yuck! Take care of your police officers LA!

Typhoid is fairly common in refugee camps around the world, and is a direct result of very poor field sanitation, contaminated water, and a lack of proper hand wash.

I imagine that homeless camps in the US are the perfect incubators for Typhus; that, and the fact that while people living and deploying to high risk areas typically get the vaccination, its not usually administered as a regular childhood vaccination as it once commonly was.

Well when you have ****, piss and garbage lying all over your streets expect disease. Liberals fail again. All their cities are looking like this.

Every single liberal city looks like that? You must be well traveled to go to every liberal city to know that and enjoy spending your money there in spite of your obvious disdain for those cities.

I dont think this is an issue limited to cities based upon political affiliations....disease has no political allegiance.

Yep, and when you let city office space become infested with pests it gets even worse.

In the mean time the police officer's union should hire an exterminator and insist that the city add that service to their next budget.

I have lived in Los Angeles since the 1940s, so I know something about this city.

The homeless problem is out of control because the activists have been very successful in getting the courts to put homeless people's rights above the rights of society.

Our local politicians fall all over themselves trying to show how much they love the homeless and demanding more money to construct housing for the homeless (although the more mentally ill of the homeless do NOT want to leave the streets).

One of our most famous streets is Sunset Boulevard. On some stretches in Hollywood, the homeless put up their tents on the sidewalks. Just recently I walking down the street when I noticed a group of tents on a street corner and some homeless gentlemen blocking the rest of the sidewalk. I had no choice but turn around and find another route to continue my walking.

Of course, when the Olympics come to Los Angeles in 2028, the officials WILL find a way to encourage the homeless to leave the area so that they do not make a bad impression on domestic and foreign visitors. In the meantime, our "representatives" could not care less about their constituents.

Congrats to Fox News and to Laura Ingraham once more for brainwashing her audience. Did your hair catch on fire as she intended it to do? Did you get scared of brown skinned illegals at the border as she meant for you to be? Bingo on both fronts.

They neglected to use these words in the TX link even though I suspect it being centered in mostly Hispanic south TX is the reason they left it out.

Typhus is the only disease becoming more common.
