Nikki Haley tells us how we won’t like what Finland says about their Health Care

Washington Free Beacon? You realize they are the people that originally hired Fusion GPS to do opo research on Trump, right???

Do you dispute the facts they reported in their story?

Or do you dismiss them because they briefly conducted an investigation four years ago?

I don't dismiss anything. The Finns spend seven percent on their health care, and they squabble about it.
We spend several times that much, and get lesser results, and crippling personal debt.

I didn't see a link supporting their main assertion...

Maybe the Finnish people don't know about this:
Maybe you don't know what you posted.

In Finland, the "Government" uppercase, is actually their executive branch, which is the prime minister and the ministers. In this case, a center-RIGHT group that ran on the agenda of pushing pushing right-wing healthcare reform (including some privatization, etc.)

The center-right's efforts were not successful due to opposition. Once realizing they did not have enough time remaining in their term to achieve their agenda, he resigned, as he promised he would if he failed to pass their Government's reforms.

HAHAH. We could be so lucky in the United States! Trump would have resigned after he failed to get Mexico to pay for the wall.
Imagine that, a right-wing party that promises to resign if they fail on their key legislation...and that follows through with it! What an example to the world, especially next to your dumpster-fire of a GOP/POTUS.

These ministers are typically composed of at least two parties, and a handful of smaller parties...diversity eh? Wouldn't that be great, instead of the partisan/loyalty bull**** we currently have.

“Prime Minister Sipilä will request to resign because the health care reform cannot be accomplished during this government term,” Antti Kaikkonen, the head of Sipilä’s Center Party’s parliamentary group wrote on Twitter. He added: "If anyone asks what political responsibility means, then I would say this is an example of that."

How would this work?

The same way it would work if a Romanian on a business trip fell on their wrist here.
They'd hit the ER, the ER docs would wrap it and give him pain meds, he would go back to Romania, use HIS ROMANIAN health care, where they would check it and say "Hey, you broke your wrist!" and they would put it in a cast.

And the Romanian would not see a bill for thousands of dollars, because he already paid for his insurance.

The End.

No... it doesn’t mean the healthcare system has ‘big problems’. It’s certainly doesn’t compare to the massive problems in the US system.

those finns are experiencing "massive" health problems
it is so bad that finland's happiness index (of its citizens) was only number ONE internationally for the past two years
i am embarrassed for haley; bless her heart, thought she was smarter than this

I like it!
Twumpy resigns.

And...I'd like it equally well if Obama had been forced to resign too, because remember, when a Twumpy OR an Obama has to resign, it means that a whole new election happens, so all the folks fighting with him are back in the hot seat again, too.

Obama? Mitch? Boehner? Ryan? You guys are hereby labeled "NO CONFIDENCE" and we the people are going to elect a whole new batch. Maybe some of you might be back, maybe some of you won't.

Sounds refreshing! Sounds like representative democracy!!

No free rides to and from the hospital in Canada? That must be denying "access to" medical care for some. ;)

Welcome to fascist Canada, komrade!

(Actually, most communities have free services for those who need them, and an ambulance only costs $45, so long as it isn't deemed unnecessary - which is cheaper than parking at some hospitals...lol)

Actually, it does work, but you have to preapprove or check with your insurance provider first.

When is the last time you got through to your insurance company, during business hours here in the CONUS, in a timely fashion. Transatlantic calls and time zones seem to be obstacles.

The missus informs me that we have a plan that has basic international coverage, but we have to pay for the service when rendered and then seek reimbursement when we return home.

Exactly, but it might or it might not work, depending on your policy, of course.
If his brother was only going to be in Romania for a short time, then jetting back to London, also for a short time, and the insurance knows this, aren't they going to decide it might be best to wait till he gets back "in network"?

As if someone's life/death is that important to have such a robust system in place. Don't you guys have bigger priorities like 2nd amendment battles and border "walls"?
We like the "bankrupt the dying person" mentality here. What's that? You are upper-class? OK, give him the care-flight chopper, that will drop his bank account and teach him to mouth-off about poor people.

Sounds about right, or in some cases, like VA or CHAMPVA, you can present your card and they'll render the services and send you an invoice when you get back home and you send that to VA or CHAMPVA and it gets taken care of.

Wife and I have been exploring how it would work if we ever decided to move to an expat community, say perhaps in Costa Rica or MX. If we did the residency thing, we would be faxing the invoices to VA and CHAMPVA every time...or the doctor or hospital would fax it.

I was being (somewhat) sarcastic, but once something is deemed to be a right then many want that to be totally cost (and hassle?) free to the user. Many want (general?) Election Day (actually weeks in places with early voting and/or vote by mail) to become a national holiday and call opposition to that idea akin to voter suppression.

Ambulance service charges in the USA are all over the road like rabid squirrels, with prices anywhere from $175 to $1500.00...you wouldn't believe what some of them charge.

Yes, I did say 1500 bucks because that's what the ambulance company wanted to take my mother from her Brentwood condo for a two mile trip to Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica. I think it got pushed down a bit by Medicare but I remember seeing the 1500 dollar charge initially.

Cost free just means that your taxes are paying for it, but generally speaking, if the PAYOR is an 800 pound gorilla the size of the federal govt they're able to negotiate for better pricing, unless the legislature specifically bars it from doing so, like they did with Medicare prescription drug prices.

But THAT was intentional, yes? And millions of senior citizens would like to see that changed, wouldn't they?
Nobody thinks it won't cost anything, they're talking about not getting a monster invoice for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars every time they have a heart attack or break their hip.

" Similar problems are bedeviling Sweden and Denmark, two other countries frequently held up as models to follow on health care. "

haha...I know, bud. :) Just messing back.

Up here employers must allow you to vote:

I think there are certain things that are important enough to support. Health and voting are two of them I don't mind seeing tax dollars and policy going to ensuring people get a crack at.

Holy ****...wow.

Here's a little more on the Romanian situation with regards to your brother:

I don't know if your brother is a citizen of Romania OR a citizen of the EU, but if he returned to the US in a few weeks, sounds like the Romanians rendered basic emergency services to him to stabilize his fracture...until he COULD return to HIS country and use HIS heath care.
Why should Romania foot the bill for an alien, especially one who is just visiting?
Do WE offer free health care to visiting aliens over here? I suspect that we stabilize them in an ER and tell them to get it taken care of back home...just like Romania did with your brother.

Neither of these garbage facilities diagnosed a break. Why do you think people come from all over the world to the US for their procedures. I will take quality of service over free ghetto service anytime.

wealthy "people come from all over the world to the US for their procedures" while American citizens who are on the margins do without

that is not a circumstance to be proud of

Does it sound like my brother is a Romanian citizen? Reread what I wrote.

I think you don't understand the fact that countries with UHC only extend it to their own people.
If I go to Canada and fall on my wrist. I won't be enjoying their UHC either, because I am not a Canadian.
