Back pain

Frequently change positions.

If it's a muscle strain I use OTC rubs like Icey Hot along with ice packs and Motrin to reduce swelling.

There are patches with lidocaine that are also OTC.

But it really depends on why you have back pain.

i do rice bags and the occasional ibuprofen. mostly, that translates to walking pretty slowly and finding horizontal surfaces to grab for until it gets better. a couple times, i have borrowed my father in law's fold up cane. that helps a lot.

What was the mechanism of injury?
Is the pain on the spine or is it on the side of the spine.
Do you have any symptoms in a leg or both legs?
Any changes in bowel or bladder habits?
Do you have fever or night sweats?

Try anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen, etc.) meds. as well as applications of hot/cold. Analyze your posture if you sit a lot. Get up and move frequently.

If that doesn't work, get it diagnosed by a professional and go from there.

I have some bad spinal injuries and they are nothing to f with. If I had gotten a better diagnosis sooner and quit trying to be a tough guy about it, I'd have a better quality of life right now.

Note : some the things listed in #9 should have you seeing a doctor asap - bladder/bowel stuff especially.

Depending upon whether upper back or lower back, consider inversion therapy. There are several on the market.

For upper back issues like I sometimes get, the inversion table is awesome. I haven't been to a chiropractor in years.

If I overdo it, too steep on the table or too frequent use, it can bother my lower back. Moderate use is so helpful to me.
