Amazon's acquisition of PillPack may capture patients over 65 - Business Insider

As the US population ages at a rapid rate, a new target demographic is emerging: those aging into the hands of Medicare.

For months, it's seemed like Walmart and Amazon could be entering into a war in order to capture this new and growing market of patients over 65 who are eligible for Medicare. Squaring up for battle, Amazon's recent purchase of digital-pharmacy startup PillPack could put it a step ahead, according to a note released Monday by analysts at Morgan Stanley.

Good luck to them. I switched to an online mail order pill delivery system & they promptly lost one month's supply of a controlled substance that I take, which caused me a lot of unnecessary running around & aggravation. Never again.

It is intended to disrupt the entire pharmacy business.

BREAK UP AMAZON NOW

Tricare makes me go with ExpressScripts. I have never had any issue with them at all, and I'd much rather pay what they charge, than what my local pharmacy charges.

They are cheaper, but they lost several of our prescriptions. Nothing life threatening, but the hassle to get it all sorted out, again and again, is not for the faint hearted. Pity on those who don't have the stamina.

But then who will disrupt the pharmacy business?

It could be interesting... pharmacy could use a disruptor, especially in the area of price transparency and prescription drug insurance payments.

So many free copay cards and discounts out there for branded drugs, and a lot of capacity for lower generic pricing with national volume.
