Anybody suffer from tinnitus?

No. I don't have it. If you play some light background music, does it help?

Yes, it does and I have a white noise machine in my bedroom...I've grown kinda used to it by now but it still bugs me at times...I wish there was a cure...

I have had tinnitus for years. Pretty much taught myself to ignore the ringing. It can be annoying at times, but so can just being alive.:lamo

So far my doc says there's no treatment for this condition, which I suffer from, but there may be new hope...this article sounds promising...it sure would be nice to be rid of this aggravating affliction...

This new device may be able to stop ringing in the ears, study says

There are multiple causes for it, if it was caused by lets say shooting guns without hearing protection or from loud noises, it usually goes away in time, I never got it but did suffer bad hearing loss after using firearms a lot without hearing protection in the military, my hearing returned to normal years later, and before anyone says yes the army uses hearing protection, I however did not many times.

If it is caused my a medical condition like bloodflow issues or some kind of eardrum damage caused by infection or otherwise, it can be hard or impossible to cure.

I think some of my meds may have caused it but what cha gonna do? You have to take them...

Of course there's years and years of listening to loud rock music, too...that ain't gonna stop either...lol...

There is a sure cure, amputation from the neck up. You won't hear anything.

Time to find out what is causing the pain creating the tinnitus. Something is up in the inner ear, or the ear canal. There are hundreds of psoriatic or eczema type diseases that are barely detectable, but cause tinnitus. The nerves that serve the ear, other than auditory nerves don't register all types of pain. Tinnitus is the result. It's a lot of tests, analysis and plain work most doctors think of as an issue of diminished returns for the investment, unless they are the patient. In the meantime use some hydrocortisone cream, on the end of Q tip, very, very gently rub the cream inside the ear canal, once a day for a week. Be careful not to touch the ear drum. If in a week the tinnitus has diminished, you will know the direct cause is dry skin, and whatever is causing that, the underlying problem.

I have it and it is annoying as heck.
It makes it hard sometimes to enjoy peace and quiet because there never is really any quiet.
I did find a place not too far where the bayou drains down a culvert and that steady noise drowns out the ringing.
I would much rather hear a waterfall.

Perhaps this might help if you got a CD or rain or the surf, or like me, a waterfall or babbling brook.
It is said we are hardwired to enjoy water sounds.

I would get a water feature in the backyard, but because I also suffer from Ranidaphobia, that is not possible.
Possibly you might benefit from one of those small indoor water features in the bedroom or someplace to help you relax.
The sound of water should be enough to drown it out and instill calm at the same time.

Thankfully, I don't have it but I already know how aggravating and devastating the condition can be. Imagine trying to have a good night's sleep with it... :(

I bought some cortisone cream today and will give it a try...my ear canals itch quite often so possibly? I don't know but it's worth a try...thanks...

I do. Same diagnosis from my GP. Flairs up later in the evening when I'm tired, and when I first wake up - clears up in a bit, but other than that, I think I'm doing OK.

Just don't ask my family. Somehow they've come to the conclusion that I'm deaf (or something).

While, yes, the audiologist did diagnose a limited hearing loss (not bad), I still keep hearing things around the house that they seem to be oblivious to.

Checking out the article, and thanks for posting.

Oh good lord.

DO NOT DO THIS.

It won’t work, and runs the risk of harm to the eardrum, and nobody, but nobody attributes tinnitus to ‘dry skin’.

Signed,

Your pharmacist (who advises everyone here to ignore any health advice from this guy. Ever.)

Thank you doctor. The Ear, Eye and Nose Clinic at the Ear, Eye, and Nose Teaching Hospital in Manhattan recommends this treatment and researchers both there and at Rockefeller University have linked both ear canal eczema and psoriasis variants to tinnitus. The idea is to apply the creams without touching the eardrum. Now, no one needs those $200 a 1 1/2 ounce tubes of ear medication you sell, if a simple over the counter $5 tube of cortisone cream will do the trick. and let's cut the BS, those expensive tubes of creme you purvey also have to be applied with a sterile cue tip. From the concerns of many doctors, the greater problem with using cue tips for cleaning ears of excess wax, is that the debris is pushed back against the ear drum, leading to infections and blockage of the ear canal. Go back and reread my post and the instructions for applying the cream before mouthing off and insulting someone because you can't read. I'm not sorry for threatening your income stream and job security.

You are not my pharmacist, thankfully. My pharmacists thanks me every time I see him, for letting him know about the advice I received from real doctors who specialize in auditory and ear problems. It works for him, when many claims of incurability from many doctors did him no good. It is not a cure, it is a temporary method for release from a symptom of an undiagnosed underlying cause which may or may not be treatable. You don't know and neither does anyone else. Do stick it in your ear, it might help clear the path for listening to others, including patients.

You're welcome. I hope it works for you. Hold the cue tip just before the cotton portion, so you don't go too deep.

I have it from all the years down in the enginerooms.

On the bright side, I have grown so used to it that I barely notice.

The only time it's a problem for me is when I talk to people with high pitches voice ranges, or at night without my radio on. A radio on really low helps a lot.

The wife is constantly after me to go get hearing aids form the VA, but I tell her no.

I might have to answer her once in a while. ;)

I don’t sell anything.

And considering the vast amount of bull**** you post, I seriously doubt you got any advice from actual medical professionals on this at all.

Huh? Sorry I can't hear you, there's too much ringing in my ears.

I've had it most of my life. A lot of shooting with no protection. Played music on and off most of my life and I worked construction my whole life. Further complications lots of ear and sinus infections.

My wife and daughter say I'm deaf. My son, who was a machine gunner in the Marine Corps, hears a little better than me. So if he and I are watching TV, my wife and daughter in law say they can hear down the street.

I'm not gonna try the amputation. Probably would work but has one serious consequence . Though it does remind me of some advice I passed on to a particular irritating woman.

" Wanna lose 30 lbs of ugly fat?" "Sure, how?" "Cut your head off"

Me too...I was hoping you'd weigh in with more info...thanks!

You could have been a man about it, emphasizing the warning about keeping away from the eardrum, but instead you resorted to scare tactics and an ad hominem response. You got one in return. I don't believe you are a pharmacist, I think you merely enjoy trying to scare people. Too bad the stocks in the company making that device tanked when the FDA did not approve it. Stuck with another bad equity investment, again, shill?

I’m sure your vast experience in making stuff up out of thin air outweighs mine.

There's not much more to it. Cortisone alleviates the symptoms a bit, it is not a cure. For those with mild problems, the pain is received, the ringing stops for awhile. Eczemic and psoriatic conditions are incurable today. All that can be done is to ameliorate the symptoms. There is no longer a question about it. Tinnitus is a reaction, a symptom from ear pain. That's why I don't stick my knee in my ear.
