Most of the detox programs these days are going to day treatment protocols. The exception is (usually)where there are multiple substances involved and/or there is a suicide risk. But even with a successful chemical detox, the relapse rate is ridiculously high. i cant tell the number of families we have seen desperate to get their kids into an aftercare program that have been shattered when their kids are back to using within the week of release.
My opinion about the greatest problem with all substance abuse treatment programs is that they treat the addiction as the problem and not the symptom of a bigger problem.
Yes. The article touches on that. Usually there is some underlying severe psychological issue, emotional pain actually, beneath that the addict was trying to numb with the drugs. And, apparently these strong opiates are very good a doing that. Too good.
