Nearly half of all men in the US have some type of genital human papillomavirus infection—and about 25 percent have a type linked to cancer, according to a study appearing Thursday in JAMA Oncology. The study is the first to look at the prevalence of HPV among American men. Much of the past attention paid to HPV has focused on women, because the virus is the cause of nearly every case of cervical cancer in the US. For this reason, health experts have been recommending since 2006 that girls and young women get vaccinated against HPV. Experts updated that recommendation to include boys and young men in 2011, but the new study shows that few are actually getting those shots—just 10 percent were vaccinated. But with the new prevalence data, the authors suggest that vaccinating men may not only prevent thousands of cancer cases, but it could also be key to stamping out cancer causing-HPV transmission overall.

What percentage of men actually GET cancer that is the result of HPV infection?


This kind of emotional, commercial bullcrap is exactly why you should accurately evaluate whether the benefits outweigh the risks when it comes to vaccination or any other medical intervention.

Its not the men getting cancer that is the only concern. It is the women that get HPV from un-vaccinated men that then go on to develop a gynecological cancer as a result that is a concern as well.

That said, it also does reduce cancer rates in men as well as its related to some anal cancers, and it reduces the prevalence of genital warts.

So you are bitching about a vaccine that can prevent 30,000 cancers per year, and approximately 6000 deaths per year? Moreover, its a vaccine that has an extremely low rate of adverse effects (much lower than most over the counter meds even).

When it comes to vaccines, the benefits significantly outweigh the risks.

Vaccines are extremely safe (emphasis on the extreme). Only in very rare cases does it cause severe negative effects (Ex: an allergic reaction).

When the HPV vaccine was rolled out and politicians were trying to make vaccination mandatory... THE LONG TERM RISKS WERE NOT KNOWN... and the benefits.. even today are negligible.

THAT IS COMPLETELY NOT TRUE.. and a very very dangerous assumption.

VACCINES ARE NOT IMPLICITY SAFE. There are plenty of vaccines out there that the side effects are quite severe and are only recommended when the benefit outweighs the risk.

The assumption that "the benefits significantly out weighs the risk".. is patently false.


Each vaccine.. and every NEW vaccine needs to assessed for the risk versus the benefits.. and not just for the population but for each individual.

Its a very dangerous assumption that a vaccine in and of itself.. is always safe.

Past research has found that some vaccines have been found to be unsafe. The smallpox vaccine is one of the deadliest.. that's why we discontinued making it mandatory.

The issue is that not all vaccines are unsafe.. and not all vaccines are inherently safe.. nor will they every be. A position that all vaccines are unsafe.. or that all vaccines are safe.. are both very dangerous positions

Because we had eradicated smallpox thus it no longer justified the risks. When there was a risk of getting smallpox, it definitely outweighed the risks of the vaccination.

Except they actually did a study of just under one million girls who got the vaccine.

Although associations for three autoimmune events were initially observed, on further assessment these were weak and not temporally related to vaccine exposure. True. When President Trump vaccinated his constituents to be immune to the truth, it was far from safe.

Luckily medical vaccines have pretty high standards to meet before they hit the market.

This is a cohort study based on self-reporting and what researchers label as "risk factors". It's not based on scientific analysis of biology, it's just statistics. It's not like victims get to give their anecdotal reports. They only get to fill our surveys that are designed by researchers to filter information that they feel is relevant. Fact is, guardasil has ruined the lives of some girls. Maybe the number is not significant to you but it is to me. The pharmaceutical industry is just as headstrong in Denmark as it is here and they are going to do whatever they can to downplay it. I would not want to be one of those girls or their family members. Lives ruined forever because they put their faith in something whose adverse effects are not being properly reported.

Most of the girls who have been affected are still in litigation. Vaccines are a sacred cow in modern medicine. If people stop trusting them then modern medicine loses an edge, just like how it is losing an edge due to antibiotic resistance. I'm not anti-vaccine. There are many that are trusted and have stood the test of time, during periods in our medical history when reporting adverse effects was more common. The way that the data is being twisted to support vaccine use is kind of appalling. Doctors who speak up are scapegoated, and the colleges of physicians are deterring them from reporting side effects. I've been researching the ADR reporting system in the U.S. for years because my son has autism. Doctors are NOT doing their jobs. It takes fatal level events on a wide scale (like vioxx) before they do anything.

These girls had to take part in a documentary to even get their voices heard because doctors were too busy dismissing their symptoms as being something else.

I would not trust this vaccine with a 10 foot pole, especially if my children were healthy, strong, athletic and have strong immune systems. It seems that the stronger you are, the more at risk you are of auto-immune developments.

Pharmaceutical companies make very little off of most vaccines. Even a new one still under patent like Gardasil lists for 525, and you can bet that it will be around half that with when you get the EOB. So would a pharmaceutical company rather sell you a cheap vaccine, or 30k or more a month in cancer drugs?

The routine vaccinations that the CDC recommend children get are literally among the safest drugs on earth.

As to the old smallpox vaccine.

1. It has not been in general use in decades.

2. It resulted in the eradication of smallpox. One of the most deadly diseases in human history.

1. Science 101: The plural of anecdotal is not data.

2. We don't know definitively what causes many autoimmune disorders, but everything we do know points to a genetic origin, not vaccines.

3. Big pharma doesn't make a lot of money on vaccines. They would much rather you not vaccinate, get very sick, and then sell you expensive drugs to treat it.

4. The reason why vaccines are held in such high regard is that most of the improvements in lifespans in the last century are due to vaccinations and antibiotics.
