I think I would always prefer factory made ammunition.
You forgot to add, "in accordance with my vast experience."

The thought of my rifle blowing up in my face is not very appealing.
The hell is a catastrophic misfire?
Apparently more people are taking to reloading as well as existing reloaders stocking up on supplies. Looks like you have a solid supply to load at your leisure.
Reloading is an art. Some are better at it than others. But these aren't mad scientists mixing this and that on a whim. They are usually following known recipes with maybe a tweak here and there based on what they want the round to do.
What's the potential for a catastrophic misfire ?
I'm sure it's an art and an acquired skill, a skill way more precise that rolling your own cigarette
It's not just the load either, it's how well you construct the bullet.

I like to add a little chili powdered gives it an extra kick till I figure out that pure blue powder recipe.
Whenever I start to whine about this and that I try to remember there are states that make life a lot more difficult and to be thankful.
I think that some time in the next one or two state election cycles CA is going to end up revisiting some of these restrictions and relaxing them a bit, which they should. I say "should" because I guarantee you CA will be the venue for the next 2A fight that hits SCOTUS.
It would be far less messy if the state just allows a little common sense and cooler heads to prevail.
The majority, even a majority of libs, want some kind of movement on things like "SHALL ISSUE" concealed permits and a few other items.
We might have a large gun grabber community but they have never been a majority.
we're good. my wife's dad had quite a bit. what i don't have is the training or the will to use it in self defense. i'm more of a target shooter. we will probably need to take a class, as i consider gun safety to be of the utmost importance. i'd also like to join a range and get back into it. this is definitely on the radar for both me and my wife. i'm kind of looking forward to it. also, ear (and eye) protection is going to be key. i have enough ringing from 15 years of singing in front of a drum kit. my hearing is still really good, though, and i want to keep it that way.
Do you have any evidence of that or is it just wishful thinking ?
Thankfully the importance of hearing protection was stressed to me whenever we were shooting, and that translated well when I was playing guitar in bands that had way more volume than musical ability.
i got lucky and ended up playing with some really great musicians in multiple bands. eventually, i had enough money to invest in good in ear monitors, and it probably saved my voice. i only had minimal nodules even at the height of our activity, and i still have a voice in my middle age, though it is not as practiced as it used to be. i can still sing and play guitar for my wife and kid, so that's good enough for me at this point. probably the smartest thing we did as a performing band was to buy a seriously kickass PA and minimize the stage volume, though our drummer wore earplugs, so he was loud, loud, loud. talented guy, though. we are still friends, and hopefully our kids will get to hang out after all of this pandemic **** is over. i had to back off of playing for a while because i really wanted a family, and the constant gigging while working full time is not conducive to that. i haven't closed the door completely, but i have now properly allocated my time. i'm sorta thinking that i might eventually get back into it when my kid gets older and if my health holds up. it was definitely good times.

Did you ever record anything ?

I hope you're able to get back to it. I enjoy going to the range if for nothing else it's a good stress reliever. With the current shortage though, those times have become less frequent.
There are several on-line sources, try Midway and Cheaper than Dirt, I use them fairly regularly. Plus I know the ammo guy at Cabela's and he puts aside what I want when they get it and I just go by and pick it up. Also I stock up when I can, and I have lots of stock for "emergency" use, and I mean lots, got caught in one of these ammo shortages once before and learned to keep a good supply on hand. Why is the Ammo Gone? | RECOIL - the 2020 Ammo Shortage
"In the early stages of the COVID-19 lockdowns, the media began reporting on a surge in firearms sales across the United States. Fast forward to almost August, and everyone is asking where did all the ammo go? Online retailers are out of stock, you can't get rounds from big box stores, and what ammo is available is either limited in quantity or highly priced. According to reps in the ammo industry, demand right now is 10x higher than during the 2013 ammo shortage."
Crazy times. How's everyone doing with their ammo? Hard to find in your area? Getting lucky?
