Over 1,500 people have been shot in Chicago, almost 900 in Philadelphia, and more than 500 in New York City so far in 2020 — all up significantly from the same time last year (1,018 in Chicago, 701 in Philadelphia and 355 in New York).

The surge in shootings has been particularly painful for communities of color, which have disproportionately endured the weight of the COVID-19 crisis, the economic recession and social unrest following the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis in May.

In New York City, after the number of shooting victims more than doubled from June 2019 to this June, every person who has been shot this July, nearly 100 in total, has been a member of the minority community, according to the police department. And in June, 97 percent of the shooting victims were minorities, the department said.

In Chicago, where minority communities have long struggled with deadly gun violence, shootings have increased 76 percent from the same time last year, with nearly all the bloodshed concentrated in the city's predominantly Black and brown communities on the South and West Sides.

We need to disarm all covid-19 viruses of firearms capable of holding more than 7 bullets. 2A does not grant gun ownership rights to viruses.

It's not surging because people are buying more guns, it's surging because police are backing off from policing minority neighborhoods, just like they were told to by the people who are now getting killed by their neighbors. But don't worry -- once the police are defunded and they get a bunch more social workers, everything will be okay.

I would imagine there is varying levels of caring, depending on the individual. There is probably also varying levels of having the resources to do something about it as well.

we know what the NRA wants to do-it supported local law enforcement teaming with the offices of the United States Attorney, to charge felons caught with firearms, federally. The federal crime of being a "prohibited person" with a firearm (18 USC 922-the gun control act of 68) generally leads to a minimum of 60 months in federal prison. State charges usually are under 2 years. Of course when the NRA supported these actions, the ACLU, NAACP and Democrat party complained because these prosecutorial actions sent lots of black males to federal prison

The democrat party has created those ****holes in every major city across the country. Democrats have controlled Atlanta since 1887. Chicago since 1937. Minneapolis since 1957. Baton Rouge Louisiana since 1872 (not a typo). New Orleans since 1872. Seattle since 1969. Detroit since 1962. Washington DC since 1961 (the last GOP mayor of DC was 1910). Baltimore since 1967. And on and on. Every festering ****hole in this country has been under democrat rule for 6,7,8 decades. Saying all gun owners are honest law-abiding citizens is not true and silly. That's like saying all homeowners are financially responsible people.

Ask yourself why is it so easy for Felons to get firearms? Because it is so easy and guns are so easy to obtain.

Most of the proposals to reduce gun violence are common sense.

1. National Gun licensing and registration system with annual licensing fees.

2. Expand mental health services that better address why 2/3 of suicides involve a gun in non-urban cities.

3. 10% tax on all firearm sales.

4. Change the federal age of gun ownership to 21

5. Universal background check implemented.

All of these proposals will be rejected by the NRA and gun-nuts.

your silly unconstitutional nonsense is only designed to harass lawful gun ownership. Since you are on record as wanting to ban lawful gun use, stop the charade of pretending you are doing this for crime control. You also prove you are clueless about current laws: there already is a 10% excise tax on firearms. Universal background checks are worthless, and are designed to harass honest people and to support registration.
